Sesame Street will be showing up on HBO first for the next five years.
HBO will be financially backing Sesame Street for the next five seasons. The next season will see the shows episodes reduced from one hour to a half-hour. The number of episodes in a season will increase from 18 to 35 as part of the deal, reports NBC News.
Sesame Street fans that still look to watch the show on PBS can, but theyll have to wait nine months after the episodes air on HBO for them to reach the network. Until then, PBS will be airing old episodes that will be cut together in different ways. There also a spin-off of the series that will include the Muppets in the works, NBC News notes.
Twitter (TWTR) reacted to the news that Sesame Street is heading to HBO with several jokes about how the content will change.
* I wonder which of my favorite characters is going to die first on HBOs Sesame Street.
* Sesame Street is moving to HBO I guess PBS finally realized that a show with unclothed characters isnt suitable for children.
* Sesame Street is heading to HBO. Suddenly children will be learning some interesting four letter words.
* Poor kids getting their Sesame Street episodes secondhand is actually educational: it teaches them how the world works.
* Parents might be a little concerned that HBO has asked George R. R. Martin to write the new Sesame Street episodes.
What’s your point?
You *do* understand the context behind the HIV character...don’t you?
Sure. To give liberals an opening to discuss and indoctrinate young children with homosexual propaganda and mainstream it.
There are a million other diseases that children watching SS would be better off being taught about because they sicken or kill more kids. But it does not serve the leftist agenda to teach your child about Lyme disease or Chron’s or Bone cancer. But it does open their minds up to Gay is OK once the propaganda comes into play. It also endangers their lives.
Khrushchev said it best. “We won’t get you, no. But we will get your children.”
Is Megan Kelly going to do their news?
Re Big Bird, this means that Michelle Obama is moving to HBO?
“Hey Abbott. I’m a bad boy” tonight.
lol
of course, leftwingers pushing sicko info on children too small to understand
Nope. Try again.
Nope. Try again.
Don’t need to try again. I got it right the first time. All the Nope try again in the world doesn’t change that.
You’re wrong. And normally I wouldn’t waste my time explaining why you’re wrong, but this is important. To me, anyway.
The character was created for the South African (SA) version of Sesame Street. Not the U.S. version. At a time when around 1 in 9 people in SA were HIV positive. Contracted mostly from heterosexual contact.
Lots of kids were orphaned (and HIV positive, contracting it from their moms). The character was created as a way to reach out to these kids who were HIV positive, along with kids who didn’t have it but knew someone who did.
Instead of trying to teach kids to be nice to kids with cancer or lyme disease or some other more common ailment they chose HIV totally for Political Correctness.
I’m in Costa Rica now, so CNN is the only news I get (they stopped carrying Fox a few years ago after Obama’s visit) and CNN is talking about this Sesame Street move as another sign of income equality. Poor people now have to wait to see the show.
Read post 32.
No, I’m right. Making excuses doesn’t change that. Why it -MAY- have been created and how it ended up used on Day 2 and since are different things.
And there are many diseases far more common that orphan kids every single HOUR. I have personal experience with that actually. And they do not get their own characters to manipulate public opinion with.
No child needs a homosexual indoctrination session to help them understand why mommy died.
With all due respect, you genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about with regard to the South African Sesame Street character.
This is some strange story.
I guess that a. it wasn’t really about education after all, because if it was you’d really want to make this show available to people for free, which Public TV is and HBO is most certainly not.
But I wonder about HBOs motives, they are clearly trying to lure parents in, they must be suffering with the millenials in the audience, those are the people who have children young enough to watch this.
You know what’s a pretty good show for little kids? Curious George, totally tolerable to watch as an adult too.
Yea actually I do.
“The lefties have been telling us for years the Republicans killed Big Bird.”
You know, I remember telling my friend years ago, when “Tickle Me Elmo” was the hot, hot, super hot Christmas toy, that that character came from sesame street and she’d had no idea.
And she even used to watch “The Muppets”! But maybe Elmo didn’t exist in those days.
