Now it makes sense. In the 1980 overhaul they installed three Phalanx 20mm machine guns or to describe it better an electronic high speed Gatling Guns system. I saw it working on an out and back in shakedown over nighter we took right before I got out. It was one wicked weapon to behold. The turret could move faster than human eyes could follow. I imagine it could hit land or small craft targets just as easy. That added a lot more to the ships self defense capacities.
