Libreoffice Calc does perfectly well for what I need.
My Blu Ray burner came with tons of utilities and a player. I create a lot of fat video files since I went 4k. DVDr simply wasn’t enough. I rather not fool with cloud for a lot of reasons.
The author does observe that the OS core is solid, and in his final verdict says "Windows 10 is going to be great".
There's enough negatives there to give the cherry pickers enough ammo for a drive-by spray-and-pray, but there's more information there than you'd expect from reading the comments.
The problem with most of the recent articles bashing Windows 10 is that they’re pure FUD. I’ve yet to see one that wasn’t clickbait to drive traffic to the hosting site.
Microsoft was VERY clear that the core OS was their primary concern and consideration with the launch of Windows 10. They’re moving the platform to a service-based architecture to allow them to focus on security and content delivery vs. constant patching of the OS.
Well, when I do change over I’ll be with the 6% who won’t be dealing with MS. Have a good day.
I know, but there seems to be an awful lot of journalists that think "core OS" means the Start button.
The problem with this is the problem with every journalist in this country: they spout nonsense, and the consuming public believes it. I’m not going to completely cover Microsoft’s ass on this, but most of the crap coming out of the media about Windows 10 is exactly that: crap.
I’m happy with that. The rest in bloat.
I never had these to begin with on my Windows 8.
I think most of them are just struggling with it. It doesn't have any kind of social issue following they can take their cues from to know what to write about it, so everything they learned in journalism school is useless.

Anyhow, the majority of my post regarding Windows 10, was meant for Swordmaker. So, excuse my erroneous placement of my post.
Nevertheless, enjoy you Apple stuff. It ain’t bad, but it’s still not as robust or as capable as the Windows ecosystem.
I have been sent the upgrade for Win10 - but I have not downloaded it yet - BUT suddenly, every time I log on each morning, my screen locks up.
I really don’t need all the bells and whistles from Win10 - and I’ve about decided to stay with Win7. I just surf the net to familiar, legitimate sites; and to write my books (Shhhhhh); so I don’t care about the graphics stuff or any of the picture stuff/sending, etc.
Do I need to delete the Upgrade - which is my first thought about why I’m getting the screen lockup. I have Norton (newest version); I have LifeLock; etc. And, I’ve never experienced this kind of action upon logging on.
I have another question, but I’ll save it for later.
If you don’t know the answer, please pass my msg on to someone who can.

Apparently you can get beyond the screen lock up.
Since you haven't downloaded it and haven't installed it. . . it may not be the responsible party for your screen lockups. It may be some other problem. . . perhaps some other malware that may have piggy-backed on the means MS used to send you upgrade. Apparently they are using peer-to-peer cross downloads for some of the distribution which may open the door for some mischief.
It may be necessary to restore your Windows system to your last Restore point that was clean and working fine. You DO have one, don't you?
You can try deleting the upgrade and re-download it. . .
Please show me where Apple charges subscriptions for any of the software they provide for their hardware? With the exception of their new Streaming Music system where they are providing third party content for a subscription, not software, you cannot. That shoots down your claim of ". . .Apple . . . does the same exact thing". Apple does not; Apple sells hardware and provides the software to complement that hardware.

"Apple won’t ever charge for there OS" is a rather disingenuous comparison given the stark differences in what the actual product lines of the two companies are.

Since I use Norton; it may not be compatible with Win10 .. even though they just sent us an upgraded version of Norton which is very nice to use. That could be the issue. Win10 may not like it. Does Win10 have it’s own -Norton Type- software ..??
So, if I get rid of the Win10 in my “MS update” folder, why would that be a problem ..??
Oh yeah; I’ve NEVER had a successful malware attack since I got my computer and installed Norton - in 1995.
And .. I don’t get viruses either.

Sadly, that's become true of all tech journalists whores these days. Whether Microsoft/Windows, Apple/Mac/iPhone, or even Linux. It's pretty sickening.
At the moment, I imagine the folks in Cupertino are relieved to see the folks in Redmond suffering the majority of the trashy articles for a change.
But it all evens out in the end.
I think Windows 10 will be a winner for Microsoft. They're highly motivated to succeed on this round.

Apple and Google and Microsoft, all have their own software, which they sell outright (with support thereafter), or they rent the software.
But, where you’re most blind, is in the methods that came into existence when apps came into existence. With Apple claiming over a million apps for it’s apps store, and Google claiming the same, and then EXTRACTING A FEE from the sales of those apps from the developers, then, Apple is, indeed, doing the same as Microsoft with software fees.
It’s not that Apple charges directly for their own in-house developed apps. It’s that, Apple charges for each and every piece of software that is ‘sold’ to be used through iOS. So, when it comes to apps and charging a fee for each app, then, it’s just a roundabout way of Apple, and Google and Microsoft to get their money back for development of the OS. Windows is not free, and neither is iOS or Android or any other OS. They all get paid, via the apps monetization mechanism.
It’s a hidden mechanism, and most people don’t recognize it for what it is, but, skimming 30% from sales of apps, is the same as if Apple had developed the apps; iow, Apple is getting paid for usage of the OS; same with Android and WP and Windows 10. It’s not a subscription per se, but, it might as well be.
