Deflate-gate has been bad for just about everyone involved. Except the lawyers and their billable hours.
The league mishandled the situation, Ted Wells probably would give back all the millions he got from the NFL just so his name wasn't mentioned in the news cycle anymore, commissioner Roger Goodell gave his critics more fuel and the NFL tarnished its Super Bowl champion. Pretty thorough job. All over a fairly minor controversy that was, as Yahoo's Dan Wetzel pointed out so well, "a molehill the NFL turned into a mountain."
But the weirdest part is why the NFL chose to rip apart Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, arguably the greatest quarterback in league history, who had been ideal for the league and its growth this century.
And make no mistake, the NFL made that choice. There are enough holes in the Wells report that Goodell could have chosen to go about this in an entirely different way. I'm not talking about looking the other way. I'm talking about realizing there was no evidence of Brady's wrongdoing and giving someone with a clean record in such matters the benefit of the doubt.

How about him being a lying cheat?
Sure it does. He snubbed Barry and was punished. Whats not to understand?
Yep...Brady is above reproach. /s
I always HATE pundits who talk like they know exactly what facts were analyzed They don’t. Period.
Maybe he got a raw deal, maybe not. But even public trials are tough to weigh in on unless you sit through the entire trial like a juror.
Every NFL team cheats, as do most players individually. Brady is upset b/c he knows it, but got caught with his paticular kind of cheating. If he weren’t the icon of the cheatin’est franchise, he might not have been suspended.
What CEO destroys his most excellent product? This whole thing is insane. That magical ending to the SuperBowl should’ve put it to rest.
I’m amazed at how well Brady sycophants’ arguments line up with Hillary and IRS apologists. We’ve already heard variations on “no controlling legal authority” and “what difference does it make”; hell, we’ve even seen the definition of “is” with the “deflator” bit.
I read the Wells report. Brady was railroaded.
He had no motivation to underinflate the balls. He plays great with properly inflated footballs. The only motivation he had was to make sure the balls weren’t overinflated.
The Wells report demonstrated that the NFL had terrible procedures for checking pressure.
This is all pretty lame. If the NFL has credibility, they should have done more than than this. Brady intentionally destroyed his phone, he cheated in the game, maybe not for the first time. Four games? He should be banned for life. Further, the Patriots should have the win yanked from them, be banned or sanctioned.
And I’m amazed at the people who assume he’s guilty because he’s accused, or they simply don’t like him.
At least read the Wells report.
Pressure issues discussed at ClimateAudit...
No, he’s percieved as guilty because he acted guilty and plays for a crooked organization. Goodell has said the punishment was as much about his actions and obstruction than anything, and his actions of late reinforce that fact.
Four games is what the Browns GM got for communicating to the sidelines; it’s also what the Falcons got for piping fake crowd noise. Jimmy Irsay got six for off-field issues, and he took his suspension like an adult and not a petulant child. In light of that, four games frankly is light for not fully cooperating with a cheating investigation.
Tom Brady did wrong and got caught....his coach tossed him under the bus, and everyone thinks that he is so picked on because he has to sit out some games....
HE DID WRONG...he needs to be kicked out of the NFL. PERIOD
These Brady/Patriot defenders are crackers. The Patriots should have been stripped of their Superbowl title, particularly given the circumstances under which they won the game. A team with any pride would have forfeited the title. We don’t deserve it, we cheated. We apologize and will forfeit our franchise if asked.
I've always disliked Tom Brady for some reason, but I've grown to detest Roger Goodell even more...
they didn’t use inflated balls in the superbowl...the only allegation was during a previous game during the first half...
he has pics on that phone...he has business matters...he has personal info that MAYBE he didn’t want to be just accidentally released....
What's not for the NFL pecksniffs to hate?
