My Dad and I used to watch the Jackie Gleason Show. Dad turned 90 last June, but his memory is not so good and I don't have anybody to share these memories with anymore. So I thought someone on free republic might have some.

Thanks for the extra info. The accident was supposed to have taken place the January 30, 1954 show. It’s amazing I remember it. I was only 6 1/2 at the time. I’m 67 now. Yikes.

One thing that I found strange was Alice and Ralph’s apartment being so drab. No pix on the wall, no curtain at t window, etc.

Occasionally, they would show Trixie and Norton’s apartment. It was very neat, pix one the wall, etc.

The contrast was always surprising, since Alice and Trixie were both ‘housewives’.

I remember that episode well, and I've seen many of them, all in syndication, mostly in the 70's I think.

I always felt the set, Ralph's apartment, was kind of claustrophobic, or something. Like a Sartre play. I never could figure the whole thing out, cuz' Audrey Meadows was so ... you know!

Same here. Mine died decades ago.

He loved that show.

And Jackie Gleason was brilliant.

Other shows we watched around that time were You Are There, December Bride, Bishop Fulton Sheen (we were protestants), Herb Shriner, Red Buttons, Queen for a Day, Science Fiction Theatre, I’ve Got a Secret, and the unique kiddie show, Winky Dink and You.

We used to watch You Are There and Bishop Sheen. We were Catholics. Red Buttons was a must, along with The Ed Wynn Show. Remember Cliff Arquette/Charlie Weaver? I watched Winky Dink, and before I got the special TV screen, my mother used to let me use a crayon right on the real screen.

On Saturday mornings, we watched Captain Midnight, Sky King, Circus Boy, Fury, Mighty Mouse, Andy's Gang, and Super Circus. And of course who can forget Howdy Doody and Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Remember Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion tv show with Buster Crabbe, and Fuzzy Knight? How about "Your Show of Shows" with Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, and the series "The Millionaire." There were just so many great shows back then.

I remember Sky King. I think it was a western with the twist of him being a pilot. How about

Grand Papi Amos and the Girls and the Boys and they all together make the Real McCoys?

I also liked the episode when Ralph and Ed were doing the kitchen gadget commercial on live TV and Ralph could hardly speak.
