“driver man”
Rider man beats driver man.
Man, them English shor do got a way with words, huh?
Had a couple of punks in the back of a pickup yell crap at me on my bicycle as I labored up PCH through Ecinitas. They got stopped at a light and I caught up.
Asked them if they had something they wanted to discuss and they got real silent.
I had a similar road rage incident a few weeks ago, over getting cut off in a 5mph parking lot. The weird thing about it was, the driver who got out of the truck was a 5 foot tall woman. She pounded on my car, pounded on my chest, and then took a swipe at me at the face & my glasses flew.
At that point it was felony assault, I quickly wrestled her to the ground (been watching too many UFC bouts lately) and promptly said, “You’re under arrest, for assault”. I started to quote her rights, “you have the right to remain silent, you have the right...”
She interrupted and asked if I was a police man. Nope, this is a citizen’s arrest. That was where I made my first mistake. I should have just kept telling her the rights.
Then I realized she’d be lying about the whole episode, so I pulled out my cell phone and tried to work the camera. I couldn’t get it to work.
A man came up from behind and said, “we should handle this like adults”. I said, “I AM handling this like an adult, I’m placing her under arrest.” Then he came around to my front and said that if I follow through with this, there would be trouble.
It didn’t make sense that a small woman would be so rage filled, so I figured he was her second, and their plan was to have her engage me while he smashed me from behind. I probably spooked him with my reaction. I figured the best course of action was to just let her go. So I did.
She got into her truck & left. To my surprise, Mr. Number 2 did not get into the truck with her. He was just a guy who came upon a man sitting on top of a woman in the middle of a parking lot at night.
After she left, I tried to find my glasses. Another man approached me from between 2 cars saying that he’d seen the whole thing and my first thought was, “great, there was 3 of them ready to jump me.” But he said that everything I did was the right thing.
My response was, “but those were my glasses! Where are they?” Just then, a car drove over my glasses.
That incident cost me $240 for glasses, plus a smart phone to upgrade my crappy old camera that didn’t do what I thought it would do. And the first thing I looked at with the smart phone was the ease of use of the camera and how long will it record? Smart phones these days are a Personal Urban Survival Utility.
The cager was a fortunate man.
He could have pulled that crap on a less polite biker.
I have a cam on my bike.
Comes in really handy, sometimes.
“Pins him to the FLOOR?”
What’s wrong with writers nowadays?
Ol’ boy looks like Gollum.
Update 11/05/2015: After several months justice has finally been served. The man who attacked my girlfriend and I back in July finally went to court. He signed a plea agreement to plead “no contest” to disorderly conduct and DUI.
His sentence is as follows:
-Serve 10 days in jail
-Pay a fine of $2800
-Be forced to take an alcohol counseling class
-Unsupervised probation for the next 3 years, during that time he is not allowed to consume or possess alcohol.
-Have an ignition interlock device installed on his car.
-If he violates his probation he will do 6 months in jail.
If you ask me, he got off easy...but at least something was done. I do not feel bad about exposing him as I hope this video will help warn new and old riders of how quickly a bit of road rage can get out of hand.
