The untrimmed facial beards on these players are identical to the those worn by Islamists. Is that their intent? I'm sorry but when I see them I automatically think of Islam........

Why not Duck Dynasty?
I highly doubt they’re attempting to emulate ISIS...

For the Pittsburgh Steelers it’s a tradition. Brett Kiesel’s beard is the greatest beard of all time. Runner-up is James Harden of the NBA.

Yeah, I’ve thought this latest fad is kind of gross and stupid too. I remember the period in the Nineties when some teams were going in for the grunge look, while other were expected to be clean cut. I thought the grunge teams had no self respect. This is kind of like that.
To: Hot Tabasco
It’s ugly.
Even on the Dodgers now — and for decades they had a clean-cut persona.

I agree with the dress code. This would not be permitted at my work place. It can be as big as they want it, but I think it should be trim and proper at least.
Did I mention, I too have a “light beard”. My wife likes the just growing in look. ;o)

Guys have been wearing beards in baseball for years. Reliever Brian Wilson of the Giants (now the Dodgers) and the 2013 Red Sox really got the fad started. A lot of teams think it’s good luck.

The young workmen who built a patio cover at my home had those sort of straight long beards. Must be stylish?

I think it started in 2010 with San Francisco pitcher Brian Wilson. It was a rally thing. From Wikipedia: "He decided he would not shave until the Giants' season was over, and only if they failed to win the World Series. During the Giants' playoff run in 2010, Giants' fans began growing their own beards or wearing fake beards. Many fans chanted "Fear the Beard," and held up signs bearing the same motto. Teammate Sergio Romo also began growing a beard in 2010; he has had it intermittently ever since."
Others have copied it since then.

They have to do something to create some excitement.
What is more exciting than watching your beard grow?
Watching most actual ballgames is not.
