Squirrel eats snake at Texas national park

GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, Texas, -- The U.S. Department of Interior shared a photo of a squirrel at a Texas park displaying a little-known behavior for its species -- eating a snake.

The photo, which the department shared on Facebook and Twitter, was snapped by park ranger William Leggett at Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

"Ranger Leggett heard a racket outside the Frijole Ranch and then recorded the entire epic battle. The squirrel devoured most of the snake, bones and all, down to the last two inches," the Facebook post said.

The post said it isn't unheard of for rock squirrels to feast on serpents.

"Rock squirrels eat mostly plant material, fruits and nuts, but don't let their humble appearance fool you. They will also eat bird eggs, lizards and snakes," the department wrote.

Don’t mess with Texas squirrels!

The squirrel is thinking “With a little pico de gallo, this might not be half bad.”

Animal Kingdom Weirdness!

My father and I enjoyed a visit to Guadalupe Mountains park during our epic West Texas adventure of 1988.

All cellular reproduction requires a substantial amount of protien. I laugh at vegan nutbags when ever the espouse their religious beliefs about animal protein. Bovine especially, consume more protein than almost all other animals. The volume of echoli the digest daily is staggering. I usually tell them that you you too can subsist on grass if you could grow a 4 chambered stomach.

I’ve known a feeder mouse to kill a 30” snake. Chewed through its skull. Got promoted.

I saw a red squirrel take down a blue jay and tear it to pieces. They’re nasty things.

Do not mess with an animal with teeth that will make short work of a walnut shell. I saw a dumbass try to grab a ground squirrel once and he required stitches.
