Indian and Pacific Oceans Have Been 'Hiding' Global Warming

WASHINGTON: Extra heat from greenhouse gases has been trapped in the waters of the Pacific and Indian oceans in recent years, which may explain the so-called 'pause' in global warming observed during the past decade, according to a new NASA study.

Researchers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California, found a specific layer of the Indian and Pacific oceans between 100 and 300 metres below the surface has been accumulating more heat than previously recognised.

During the 20th century, as greenhouse gas concentrations increased and trapped more heat energy on Earth, global surface temperatures also increased. However, in the 21st century, this pattern seemed to change temporarily.

"Greenhouse gases continued to trap extra heat, but for about 10 years starting in the early 2000s, global average surface temperature stopped climbing, and even cooled a bit," said researcher Josh Willis.

When I was in the garage looking for something else, I found a box of global warming that I didn’t realize was in there.

Will they be arrested for “Accessory to Denial of Global Warming”?

I’ve heard that’s now a crime...

I’ve had a Tupperware container of it in the back of my refrigerator for about 20 years. But now with all the attention the issue has been receiving in recent years I’m afraid to try to dispose of it.

One of my favorite exchanges with an AGW zealot.

“So the reason that the poles have more ice than ever is because the heat of global warming is being absorbed by the oceans.”

“That’s right.”

“Interesting. Now, according to your science, how long do you have to put water on the stove before it becomes ice?”

They’re talking about 100 - 300’ depth. So they’re likely talking about the thermocline. If the thermocline is ‘trapping heat’ relative to the oceanic temperature it means sea surface temperatures are dropping as thermoclines usually represent latent heat from the prior summer. They may be stating facts however they are mis-representing them as global warming.

If the oceans in any way are warming up, then the water would expand and the water level would grow significantly. This higher water level is not happening, though.

So much for that theory.

Reminds me of the erupting undersea volcano they found earlier in 2015 off the coast of Oregon.

Given the rising volcanic activity on land since 2012, it is certainly likely even more undersea volcanoes are going off that we don’t know about.

Indeed. The oceans are a physical system and cannot by some will of Gaiea “hide” heat.

Exasperating.

Carbon has changed the thermodynamic constant of water, it’s molecular cohesion is threatened.
