London (AFP) - British bank HSBC fired six staff after they performed a mock Islamic State-style execution video during a team-building day out and posted footage online, a spokesman confirmed on Tuesday.
The bank described the video, showing staff members in balaclavas holding a fake knife over a kneeling man in an orange jumpsuit, as "abhorrent".
"We took the decision to sack the individuals involved," a spokesman for the bank said.
"This is an abhorrent video and HSBC would like to apologise for any offence caused."
The employees filmed the video on an HSBC team-building day in Birmingham and published it on Instagram before deleting it, according to newspaper The Sun, which published screen shots of the clip.
In it, a kneeling man in a jumpsuit is held by the shoulders while a colleague wields a coat-hanger like a knife above him, as though preparing to cut off his head.
One staff member shouts "Allahu Akbar" (God is the greatest in Arabic) during the clip, according to The Sun.

Sounds like the company is more outraged over the fake one than the real one.
How could any right thinking person not grasp how WRONG this was and how badly it was likely to end? Anywho, I don’t usually say nice things about banks, but kudos for dealing with this quickly and firmly.
The article wasn’t clear: Were they fired because muslims might have been insulted by the video, or because the bosses don’t like being reminded of what some of their customers like to do.
A lot of things sound like a good idea until you have to explain it to the judge the next morning.
So who exactly was “offended”?
ISIS members for the amateurish portrayal of their barbarism?
The muzzle population in general because they really didn’t lop somebody’s head off?
Liberals,who are offended at everything?
Families of the real ISIS victims?
Christians?
I wonder if the team building consultant got fired.
Most of them are wackjobs.
The real reason they were fired is because they dared to show Islam in a bad light.

HSBC in Hong Kong we used to say that HSBC stood for: “Holy Sh*t Batman Crooks”
So they didn’t take the existential threat of Islam seriously. It isn’t a subject for light hearted fun certainly as its practitioners are daily, even hourly murdering opponents including Christians in prodigious numbers. It could come to your neighborhood, particularly in the UK. Actually, it’s already there.
