Paul McCartney Reignites Decades Old Feud with Yoko Ono, Recalls Lennon Resentments

The other big quote from the interview which will live on:

“When John got shot, aside from the pure horror of it, the lingering thing was, OK, well now John’s a martyr. A JFK. So what happened was, I started to get frustrated because people started to say, “Well, he was The Beatles.” And me, George and Ringo would go, “Er, hang on. It’s only a year ago we were all equal-ish.”

Yeah, John was the witty one, sure. John did a lot of great work, yeah. And post-Beatles he did more great work, but he also did a lot of not-great work. Now the fact that he’s now martyred has elevated him to a James Dean, and beyond. So whilst I didn’t mind that – I agreed with it – I understood that now there was going to be revisionism.”

My version of secret rock history has the over-educated and frustrated classical musician George Martin leading the school dropouts Beatle boys toward string quartets, flutes and eventually toward Sergeant Pepper’s ridiculous and altogether and unfortunately too influential self-indulgence and pretense. Pepper is his baby! It ain’t art, baby, it’s rock and roll. Thank Heaven for the Sex Pistols.

That was from his band `Wings’ and Linda. (Venus album?)
Former Beatles were attracted to women who couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket./
Having said that, I still own and enjoy Wings `Ram’ (On). I play it on my ukulele.
Remember `Admiral Halsey’ `Uncle Albert’ and all the other happy, sappy English music hall songs?

Sorry....didn’t like it. I think all the weed McCartney did finally got to his creative abilities...like it did to most of the best songwriters of the sixties...Dylan included.

“I like Walsh (the musician) but wouldn’t hang out with him.”

Joe Walsh came up to an information counter near me at the airport last year and he was the friendliest of guys. Over the top introducing himself to the desk employee and being friendly. Seemed like he was genuine, friendly, and down right fun. Very extroverted.

Please watch a documentary called (and about) “John Lennon’s Jukebox”, which was sold at auction some years ago.

You may rethink things.

Go to youtube & look up “Magical Misery Tour” which originally came out on National Lampoon’s Radio Dinner in 1972.

The video is classic. The strung-together sentences of John Lennon’s 1970 Rolling Stone interview are priceless:

“Don’t you dare criticize my work! I’m a f***ing artist! I’m sensitive as s***! I throw up before I go on stage! I can make a guitar SPEAK!!”

“Yoko is a supreme intellectual! I’ll tell why nobody likes her music, it’s because she’s a woman and she’s Oriental, that’s why!!”

McCartney may have done some good, but the first time I noticed him was when I heard his “My Valentine” and it is an appalling composition. Sounds like it was written (and performed) by a man on life support.
It could have been titled, “My Peristalsis.”

I think `72 was in the time he was hanging out with fellow sensitive wild man Harry Nilsson, and they were completely strung out and bellicose most of the time.

He had half the compositions on the Yellow Submarine album.

He even got money from Hard Day’s Night film soundtrack and Help film soundtrack sales.

The Beatles albums we know today on vinyl and CD aren’t the ones that were available in the 60s, 70s, or 80s.

Help was a movie soundtrack with one George Martin instrumental tracks interspersed. Same with Hard Day’s Night. same with Yellow Submarine.

England didn’t have a Magical Mystery Tour LP. It was an ep and the other songs were non-album singles.

England didn’t have Again The Beatles either. Thus we have 2 volumes of Past Masters collecting up singles and the US only LP.

I saw “Hard Day’s Night” and “Help” at the theater, when they came out, the Beatles live at the Hollywood Bowl in summer 1965, after seeing Dylan live in December 1964 at Wilson High School in Long Beach California.

There was so much new, interesting music coming along, that I have never gone back and analyzed it.

Last Monday night, my wife and I saw “Love & Mercy” about the life of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson.

Looking backward at this stuff 4 and 5 decades later, leaves a lot of room for varied portrayals and so forth.

At the time I liked some other groups better, but the Beatles have really weathered the test of time.

My favorites are the guys who last 50 years like Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, and still put out original stuff which is great.

After the split, Harrison's and yes, EVEN!!! Ringo's songs were better.
