I can tell you from experience that while a .308/7.62 AR is an amazing “reach out and touch” firearm, it is not the best CQB firearm if you intend to deliver precise fire. The .223/5.56 AR can indeed rapidly put precise fire on close targets.
Your mileage may vary.
