Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm sure someone will - but I saw an item in the news several decades ago where some Russki's retrieved a Mammoth from the ice in Siberia and cooked some of the meat. As I recall, they found it to be savory, despite the 10,000 year old vintage.

I hope they can bring the Mammoth back. It will remind Hillary of her childhood...

I am surprised that it wasn’t freezer burned.

There was an episode of ‘Northern Exposure’ where the town Doctor found one fully intact and thought he had a gold mine on his hands, but one f the natives cut it up and ate it before he had a chance to sell it.

I missed that episode, Jim. I don't know much about the physics of freezer burn, but if it was cold enough, and insulated by all that wooly stuff, maybe it survived without freezer burn.

Of course, the next specimen they find like that, they'll probably pull the DNA and author a resurgent species of Mammoth.

Did you know? Mammoths and mastodons were early residents of the San Diego region! The Museum’s paleontology staff has found remains of mastodons in National City, Carlsbad, and Oceanside, California. Mammoth fossils have been discovered in downtown San Diego, Rancho Santa Fe, and Oceanside, as well. Some of these locally discovered fossils are on display in the Museum’s Fossil Mysteries exhibition.

They say the meat from the trunk is particularly tasty. Of course, I have no clue who "they" are.
