Courtney Love attacked during Paris anti-Uber protest

Rocker Courtney Love was left terrified when she was caught up in angry demonstrations in France on Thursday as protesters attacked her car during a drive into Paris.

Love took to Twitter.com to explain that the car she was traveling in was ambushed as cab drivers blocked roads leading to and from the city's airports in a stand against taxi app Uber. Love claimed the driver was held hostage and the car was beaten with metal bats before they escaped by jumping on motorcycles, while they were also pelted with rocks by protesters and ignored by police.

She used the microblogging site to scold French president Francois Hollande for the lack of law enforcement amid the crisis and even likened the protest environment to conflict-ravaged Baghdad in Iraq. The singer also aimed a message at fellow musician Kanye West, who reportedly stayed within the airport to avoid facing the protesters.

She writes, "Dude... Kanye West we may turn back to the airport and hide out with u (you). Picketers just attacked our car Paris Uber strike... They've ambushed our car and are holding our driver hostage. They're beating the cars with metal bats. This is France? I'm safer in Baghdad... Francois Hollande where are the f**king police? Is it legal for your people to attack visitors? Get your a** to the airport. Wtf (what the f**k)?... Paid some guys on motorcycles to sneak us out, got chased by a mob of taxi drivers who threw rocks, passed two police and they did nothing."

If you do go Uber, look to operate in an area that is not already saturated with both Taxis and Uber drivers. I have a friend who enjoyed the first few months, until too many other new drivers jumped on the bandwagon. My friend also tries to collect his own little group of loyal customers, he gives out his paper business card. Some customers don’t want the worrying hassle of meeting a new driver in a differdnt car each time they want to use the service. I wouldn’t.

Thanks. I actually have a late-model van, and my insurance and license is up to date.

I'm not in a big-city either, but have access to mid-size markets where Uber is not established.

Taxi drivers in Paris, France? Let me guess, mostly Muslim, and mostly Union, and clearly against free enterprise and capitalism. Why should we care at all about their existence again?

Protests are all good until something happens to Courtney. The violence is for us - the elite and their court jesters are supposed to be protected!

RE: France; the future Greece.

With one major difference — the 1 in 10 of the former’s population is Muslim.

I know someone who is an Uber driver. As a courtesy to his passengers, he keeps bottled water, and every conceivable device charger. Drives part time. Makes good money, especially when civic events are happening in his area. People will use Uber so as not to have to worry about, parking, traffic, etc. Your vehicle must not be older than 10 years and in good repair. Uber insurance is in effect when you have a fare, otherwise your insurance is in effect. Check out the website. Good luck.

Are you saying the regular taxi drivers are better than Uber drivers? My daughter has used Uber over 100 times since it is cheaper than maintaining a car in Seattle. And never had a problem.

The Uber drivers use their own vehicles, so chances are they will be more careful than Mohammad driving Yellow Cab.

Darn...I was going to paint my ‘69 Shelby black, for the top-tier service! /s

There are three levels of Uber services: UberX, and the most expensive level is called Uber Black.

I haven’t used Uber in a while, so I don’t remember what the mid-level service class was called...

Now that you mention it...I do recall him talking about different levels. And if you are going to paint your 69 Shelby black...well, I don’t have the words. :))

Why exactly is there an upper limit to the age of the car used in a service like Uber? Is there something in their universal insurance policy that I’m overlooking?

(BTW, I’m actually eyeballing a ‘64 Fairlane...just wanted to insert another well-known classic car, for illustration)
