Quasi Modo takes home first place in World's Ugliest Dog contest

Quasi Modo, a 10-year-old mutt whose spinal birth defects left him with a hunchback, is the winner of this year’s World’s Ugliest Dog Contest Friday night.

The pit bull-Dutch shepherd mix and his owner took the $1,500 prize, besting 25 other dogs competing in the contest that applauds imperfection, organizers said.

Before becoming a champion, Quasi Modo was abandoned at an animal shelter before being adopted by a veterinarian in Loxahatchee, Florida, according to the dog’s biography posted on the contest’s website.

I'm with youse guys....the contest was getting tiresome and predictable. And, in my opinion, the Chinese Crested dog being picked again this time would have spelled doom for the contest.

The judges, show producers and sponsors know this, too. Let's face it, the Chinese Crested is the world's ugliest breed and would win top spot forever and a day unless some change in selection processes was made.

So the show's brass realized it had to dip into the deformity pool, or some other source of differentiality, for a champion this year, or the contest would quickly collapse for lack of any variety, competition and, of course, for the surprise/suspense factor always necessary in contest "show biz".

Chinese Cresteds are ugly, sure, but that is how they are supposed to look. I really like this years winner, I like his life story too.
