As long as I can remember, the Republicans on Capital Hill have adopted the policies of the sitting Republican president.
If they were to stand up in opposition to a Conservative president, it would be the first time they had overtly done that.
They like being on the in-crowd list with the sitting president.
“They like being on the in-crowd list with the sitting president.”
Sure. But all this presupposes that a conservative is going to be nominated and win the general. I see little that indicates that a conservative will be either nominated or win the general election. The nomination process is rigged to steer towards a middle of the road candidate. Given that the kleptocrats in congress do not favor conservatism, they will do all they can to scuttle the election for a nominee they perceive to be “too conservative.” And this all presupposes that the general populace would elect a conservative at all. Those same folks who elected dear leader. Twice.
FR is very conservative. It isn’t reflective of the views or preferences of the population at large.
All this is not to say that conservatism can’t win. Because I think it can. But if you define victory as having a conservative president elected, then plan on disappointment.
