Obamacare Ruling was Best for Today's GOP (vanity)
(self) | June 25, 2015 | (self)

Like it or not, given today's Republican leadership, we probably got the best ruling possible from the Supreme Court, as it does not take a rocket scientist to know what our bunch would have done if the Court had struck down the subsidies, given their TOTAL INABILITY to stand up to Obama on anything else. Here's what would have happened:

June, 2015: Interim Fix: No changes to Obamacare for the next 6 months (end of calendar year). Sure, some conservatives would want something in exchange, but the president will DEMAND that the first fix make no changes to His interpretation of the law. So the Republican leadership will quickly fall in line and pass a bill correcting the 'mistake' that was in the law (regardless of what Gruber has said). So no changes to Obamacare for the rest of the year.

Dec. 2015: Time for the BIG FIGHT. Only problem is that the President, knowing that the Republican leadership in Congress is totally under his thumb (battered wife syndrome), will cave. In this case, they put through some bills to extend Obamacare with some strings, but they get vetoed, until the Republicans finally cave and put through something that the president will sign. No different than EVERY OTHER TIME the Republicans promised a fight to the end - yes they fought to the end, and then they buckled, ALWAYS...anyone care to tell us why this time would be different?

Nov. 2016: Time for the election. Conservatives again SIT IT OUT, due to Republicans caving on Obamacare (primarily, since that was the most recent 'fight'). They don't trust a thing out of this bunch (can you blame them), even Ted Cruz would have trouble winning.

But, now, none of that happens. The Republicans can act all big and tough about how they would have fixed (or eliminated) Obamacare, had the Supreme Court learned to actually READ what's in the laws, but they are now not required to put out. Like it or not, Republicans do much better when they can TALK as if they are Conservative, rather than when they have to SHOW that they are conservative, by actually VOTING that way on meaningful legislation.

In the end Cruz, or maybe Walker might be able to win ONLY because of this ruling, as this ruling prevents Boener and McConnell from pulling the rug out from under them. So, like it or not, we come out ahead here.

we don’t need a Congress any more

They need to repeal every law except one

Since it can mean whatever the government wants, we only need one.

Agreed. This marks a very dark day. Normalcy bias is real.

In addition, there is no way that congress would have required repayment of the current tax credits.

Small businesses will be slaughtered by this ruling.

I had expected that if the Court had disallowed the Presidential rewrite of the law the Republicans would move straight to Single-Payer as the only way to "save" the medical system after the dastardly Court made a shambles of it.

The mantra of Repeal and Replace was a strong warning of what was in the works should obamacare go down. The only way to get medical care to all who need it and bring the prices way down is for the government to get the hell out of medicine and healthcare and insurance altogether. The only proper government role according to the Constitution is guarantee of weights and measures and by logical extension, truth in advertising.

BS, they deserve equal blame because they are complicit in shielding this bad law.

Now, if conservatives know the Republicans are just as much to blame as the Dems for this, why would you think that the average middle-of-the-road voter would buy such nonsense?

Effectively what the Court upheld was the free hand of the President to rewrite laws to suit himself, i.e. the right of the President to Legislate if he couches his reasoning in the language of fixing “obviously unintended errors.”

No question. Today's GOP is the second wing of the Democrat party.

“Ok and lets take the next step. Cruz or Walker wins and
passes a law...”

Presidents don’t pass laws. They can’t do anything with this spineless Congress of traitors stabbing them in the back at every opportunity.

This is happening anyways.

Not likely. The next president, whoever he might be, will have a Democrat House and Senate with probably veto proof majorities and they will be much more intransigent than Reagan’s Democrat Congress was. The next President, inm the unlikely case that he is a Republican, or, just as unlikely- a third party, will get nothing through the Congress at all if he insists on returning to governing as a Constitutional President. The Congress, however, has abdicated in favor of the President and any next president can continue to be a Dictator. The power cannot be returned. The Court has ratified it with the latest Decision. It can only be abjured and that will last only until the next president or to a change of mind..

“SCOTUS just confirmed that the Constitution and the Rule of Law is irrelevant and that whatever the Ruling Class Oligarchy and their Dictator want to impose on us will be MADE LEGAL.”

I hear you, but the “rule of law” has ALREADY been discarded by the Supreme Court, with Roe vs. Wade, and then Kelo - about the only way it MAY come back is if Cruz, or maybe Walker can win, and put more Thomas’s/Scalia’s on the Court.

Without people like that, right and wrong don’t matter...if the left controls the Court, then they will ALWAYS rule against the Constitution and with the Dems.

I think the ruling will create even more discouragement among conservatives, and cause them to give up on the system. I think the GOP may lose the House, Senate, and the Presidency in 2016 because conservatives will just stay home on voting day. The system is corrupt and rotten to the point where even the plain meaning of the English language is disregarded by the power elite. Our best strategy would be work at collapsing the economy, creating chaos, and hope we can win the throat slitting contest.

I disagree.

Now there is almost nothing left standing in the way of full-blown dictatorial socialism.

Now there is nothing to stop all states from switching over to the Federal exchange. Employers will drop insurance coverage and everyone will have to switch over to the Federal SCOTUSCare. So the Executive branch owns your health.

Now there is no legislation that cannot be interpreted any way that the executive branch wants to...all that it takes is to let it go through the courts where a great big precedent awaits to change the language of any legislation. So the Executive branch owns the congressman that you elected.

And I don’t think that this decision will motivate enough people to take up arms to take back their government.

Silver lining? No. this is the lowest day in the history of the courts. And the beginning of the end of what you think was America.

“We win by losing? I think you’ve entered the final stages of Stockholm syndrome.”

“WE” would be JUST FINE if the Republicans running Congress gave a damn about us. We weren’t part of the Supreme Court decision, as NO ONE was talking about simply walking away from a decision in favor of CONSERVATIVES - instead OUR REPUBLICAN LEADERS were climbing all over each other to see who could get ‘credit’ for bailing out the Democrats.

Far from Stockholm Syndrome - WE were never even part of the case.

“We win by losing”?

There is at least some logic to that, yes.

Consider for example a tug of war where the weaker side let’s go of the rope at the first pull.

The “losers” don’t end up in the mud pit. The “winners” end up falling on their a**es.

Thats the theory, I think, being put forward here. May not be applicable of course, but the general logic being applied does work.

“In short, we got the worst possible decision, the GOP will be blamed, the Dims will get credit and it will CARRY all the way to the election.”

Our PROBLEM is not with the Democrats, it is with our BASE (hence my tagline and “about” page). WE are the majority in this country, if we could simply get our party to UNDERSTAND THAT, rather than listening to Karl Rove and the GOP ‘advisers’ (most of them gay, by the way). If the Dems want to get the ‘credit’ for premiums that are INSANELY HIGH for older Americans (and younger Americans too) along with deductibles that are SO HIGH as to prevent middle-income Americans from getting medical care, then I say, LET THEM BRAG!

It’s all “otherwise” at this point, my friend. We have government that has no liability under any law because nobody exists to prosecute them under any law. Who is there to prosecute Lois Lerner, for example? Or Hillary Clinton? Bank robbery is illegal, but if there is no entity to enforce the law that would ordinarily try to stop you, shoot you, pursue you, arrest you, book you, hold you under bond, and ultimately select a jury and prosecute you is no longer extant. The cops in Baltimore? The government aka party that is in power when this threshold is crossed never needs to surrender power.
