For years, Chillicothe, Ohio, was known as just another notch on the Rust Belt, afflicted by the same old problems of drugs, poverty and unemployment. If the town ever made national news, it was because a presidential candidate stopped by vowing to fix things, only for those promises to evaporate after Election Day.
But in the past couple of months, Chillicothe has crept back into headlines for something other than a stump speech. Something much darker. Something evil.
Chillicothe is no longer just another Rust Belt town. Now it’s the place where women go missing and wash up dead.
In little over a year, at least six women have disappeared from the town of only 21,000. Four of their bodies have been found, almost all of them dumped in creeks or streams flowing away from the town.
The women have similar stories. Most of them were hooked on drugs, and many moonlighted as prostitutes to fund their addictions, police say. Some of them even knew one another....

Been there, nice place, nice people. Has a prison and a big VA hospital. Good hunting and fishing country.
There have been a couple of hookers that have gone missing, and turned up dead in creeks in the Portsmouth OH area. About 45 miles south of Chillicothe. The cops may want to expand their investigation.
You’re right, it is actually one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been in. This is the “knobs” region of Ohio and is spectacular for the immense hills. The latest young woman was found just about 5 minutes from my house. The killer is obviously familiar with this area because this was a very remote road where she was found. Looks like I’ll be packing when I go into the wilds hiking anymore.

According to the article - not ALL of them. Hard to believe in a small town there are that many hookers. Sad they are prostitutes, and sadder that someone is killing them. That seems to be a typical thing with some psychos (the Green River Killer here in Washington State was like that. Ridgway or something.)
Hmm. Killing prostitutes and dumping them in the water. It would surprise me if the guy is a copy-cat of Ridgway, who admitted to 48 deaths, and is suspected of many more.
None of the articles mentioned rapes so the police are keeping a tight lock on that info. Key info is that someone lured the women by telephone. That means a local man, likely a pimp. Female prostitute heroin users usually are sentenced to Narcotics Anonymous meetings, a victim-rich lode for violent junkie men. Female junkies sometimes get killed by pushers who didn’t get paid.
Lynch may be an outlier because white men don’t rape black women, FBI statistics show.
Hard to believe indeed. That many killed means there must be others as well. Small city like that it can’t be that difficult to clean up the drugs and end the prostitution with it.

Howdy neighbor! You should definitely be packing if you’re hiking near the Seven Caves. I was told the local authorities broke up a marijuana grow operation in one of the caves recently. I assume one of the little ones scattered about the region, but since the hippies took over the formerly delightful attraction who knows!
Copy-cat of Ridgway is an interesting thought and certainly a possibility. As a side note, Dave Reichert, who was the Sherriff that caught Ridgway is my Rep in Congress. He’s a RINO, especially on environmental issues, but I think he’s the best we can do in this area. He’s better than most other Reps from our state (most are Dims).
Yes, the road the girl was found on is named Cave Road because it has several small caves near it. I doubt a junkie pimp would know the country side this well especially being over an hour’s drive from Chillicothe in another county.
