Now is the time to talk about replacing the statue of Robert E. Lee, as iconic as it is controversial, from its perch at the center of Lee Circle, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced Wednesday (June 24) during a gathering held to highlight his racial reconciliation initiative.
"Symbols really do matter," he said. "Symbols should reflect who we really are as a people.
"We have never been a culture, in essence, that revered war rather than peace, division rather than unity."
The slaying last week of nine black people in a historic Charleston, S.C., church at the hands of Dylann Roof, an avowed white supremacist, has sparked heated debate about whether the Confederate battle flag and other symbols associated with the country's racist past ought to be displayed in public places.
Just two days ago, Landrieu was noncommittal when asked whether the Lee statue should be removed, though he called for a larger discussion on it and other Confederate monuments in New Orleans. The 2018 Tricentennial Commission, whose tasks include addressing the city's complex racial history ahead of its 300th anniversary, would also examine the propriety of the monuments continued display on public property, the mayor's office said.
"These symbols say who we were in a particular time, but times change. Yet these symbols -- statues, monuments, street names, and more -- still influence who we are and how we are perceived by the world," a spokesman said in a statement.
"Mayor Landrieu believes it is time to look at the symbols in this city to see if they still have relevance to our future." ...

Once the bull dozers starting knocking down monuments will there be thousands of people standing in front of the monuments to stop their destruction?
To get to one world government the USA will have to be eliminated. Another Civil War would do the trick.
We just have to ask ourselves “Do we want to live under one world government in peace or as slaves? Or do we want to live under the current regime as slaves?”

Interesting question. We now have authorities in the US acting like the Taliban in Afghanistan and ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Will people resist, and if they do, what will the authorities do? I think there will only be sporadic resistance because the political leadership that could defend American history is largely on the run or has gone over to the Leftists.
A lot of Africans eagerly sold their darker skinned compatriots into slavery. Certainly doesn’t make it right, but there was a lot more than racial animus in play.
Lincoln Even offered command of the union armies to Lee. But Lee turned it down and went home to Virginia.
Here's another interesting little fact:
George Washington Parke Custis (April 30, 1781 – October 10, 1857), was the step-grandson and adopted son of United States President George Washington, and father-in-law of Robert E. Lee. He spent his large inherited fortune building Arlington House on the Potomac opposite Washington, D.C. After his death, the estate was left to the Lee family, but was confiscated after the outbreak of the American Civil War. Later, the confiscation was rescinded, and Congress bought the estate back from the family. The house is now the Robert E. Lee Memorial and the plantation became Arlington National Cemetery and Fort Myer. He also wrote historical plays about Virginia, a number of patriotic addresses, and a memoir of life in the Washington household.
I’ll bet that 75% (I’m being generous...) of the blacks in New Orleans don’t know who Robert E. Lee was.
And those in the GOP will breathe a sigh of relief. The GOP sucks at leading, hates being accountable, etc., and would prefer that control be taken away from it. It, the GOP, is more effective as an opposition party than it is as the majority.
Within 10 years or less from this date[June 24, 2015]a statute of either Che Gurvea, barrack Obama, Fidel Castro, or Louis Farrakkan will be in every city, town, or village in the United States of America. Every major intersection will have a life size portrait of barrack Obama. That is how far down we, led by the politicians and cheered on by the media, we, as a Nation will have sank.
I’ll tell you one of the things that I expected to see - spontaneous flag-waving demonstrations around the memorial. Remember when the lefties started trashing the vets (again) and we posted peaceful demonstrations around the country - especially adjacent to veteran hospitals? Where are the residents of the communities affected by these unilateral political decisions and why aren’t they making their displeasure known?
Or the NASCAR thing - I’d love to see the SVC sponsor a CBF giveaway outside the gates to a few racetracks. Can you imagine the cameras panning to the sight of ten thousand happy faces waving confederate flags?
Right now it looks for all the world (thank you lamestream media) like there is no opposition to these moves.
The left knows PR stuff that the right only dreams of.
Close the Manassas Battlefield. The Confederacy won twice.
I believe local authorities will lock up all protestors. And they’ll use deadly force if necessary. The media will say the cops were forced to kill a bunch of redneck racists white extremists.
And the jackboot lickers on this forum will cheer the police on as they shoot them down.
