STUDY: SCANT EVIDENCE THAT MEDICAL POT HELPS MANY ILLNESSES
AP ^ | June 23, 2015 | Lindsey Tanner

Medical marijuana has not been proven to work for many illnesses that state laws have approved it for, according to the first comprehensive analysis of research on its potential benefits.

The strongest evidence is for chronic pain and for muscle stiffness in multiple sclerosis, according to the review, which evaluated 79 studies involving more than 6,000 patients. Evidence was weak for many other conditions, including anxiety, sleep disorders, and Tourette's syndrome and the authors recommend more research.

Most trials showed improvement in symptoms associated with cannabinoids but these associations did not reach statistical significance in all trials.

Quite the difference from original claims! I love how the anti-MJ crowd is so willing to argue their points, all based on propaganda and lies. Infuriates me sometimes, to see just how ignorant those on the right can actually be. Then again, what more would we expect from those that would vote blindly for the GOP in the first place?

Got it. I actually quit shortly after my 25th birthday, 30 years ago not because I didn’t enjoy it but more for the fact of how I would explain to my family why I couldn’t get a job because I failed a random piss test. I was once called in for a “random” 3 times in one week. I don’t worry about that now because my current and previous employers only required a UA upon employment and since legalization here in Washington I have only smoked about 5 times. Friday night was the first time since January.

The fact that marijuana has almost zero medical use was a well a well established fact

JAMA: "There is some evidence to support the use of marijuana for nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy, specific pain syndromes, and spasticity from multiple sclerosis."

“They’re dieing people!! What difference does it make what they do?! If it makes them feel better, even if it’s in their own mind, what does it matter?”

The self-righteous tend to think in absolute (vs. relative) terms.

My mom smoked until she more or less lost her mind from the brain tumor and forgot she smoked. My brother would gripe at her about it. I told him shut up and leave her alone. What difference does it make now? A year later she was gone.

Sincere yet silly question: Does pot really help relieve pain, or simply make people so they don’t give a crap about it?

The desire to control the lives of others is not strictly limited to the left. There are plenty right here on this thread who would deny your loved ones effective pain medication and feel righteous doing it.

And as all the literature has pointed out, while marijuana may have some marginal impact, the negative health aspects far outweigh the positive, and there are much better alternatives currently available within medicine to treat any malady that marijuana supposedly helps.

The media uses pity to influence and control public opinion. Since many journalists are leftist, and probably druggies, they propagandized the apathetic American public(the mob) into believing marijuana helped the chronically and terminally ill.(Use of pity) Thus as a result of the "Propaganda Boom" the drug addict gets unfettered access to his drug. The Salvation Army reports that their Colorado facilities are being flooded by incoming druggies.

The American people under media control are rapidly becoming vice addicts; eating, drinking, drugging, copulating, evacuating their bowels and snoring. Such a nation cannot last long as an independent nation; especially with ever growing strong peoples such as the Russians and Chinese. Americans are losing their capacity to think of themselves as a unit and are disintegrating into "Diversity."

I do not partake, but it seems to me that it’s largest attraction is it’s intoxicating effects.

Do we need to claim “medicinal” value for other legal intoxicants? Beer, Wine, Liquor, Tobacco? If not, then why is marijuana still illegal?

Legalize it and then increase penalties ten-fold for causing any negligent harm to people or property while under the influence of *any* intoxicant.

Done. Next issue!

It will be legal in many more States, and very soon. You Big Government Nanny Staters will just have to get over it.

If all the literature says there are much better alternatives currently available within medicine to treat ANY malady that marijuana supposedly helps, then surely you can easily quote some.

I have no problem with marijuana legalization I just find it amusing that people claim it can cure so many aliments.

“There are plenty right here on this thread who would deny your loved ones effective pain medication and feel righteous doing it.”

For meddlesome, sanctimonious individuals, feeling righteous is far more important than doing good.

It really helps when you start with a conclusion and work backwards from there.

I am more interested in the legalization of cannabis oil. I’ve read a great deal about it’s use for pain relief with out the “high” from smoking the leaves.

My dad deals with intense chronic pain, has had it for about 40 years. He is totally addicted to his pain meds-goes through withdrawal every single day as it approaches time for the next dose. When prescribing the meds the doc said, he will get addicted but so what, he’ll need them for the rest of his life anyway. It was not a thing to take lightly. He is so often miserable, which makes my mom’s life miserable as well.

He, like any addict, needs a little bit more all the time. Then, he runs out with a day or two until the next refill and suffers horribly. Even if he practices tremendous self control, the months with 31 days mean he will have 24 hours of hell until the next refil.

If an herb or herbal oil can offer people who have severe pain relief, without using a heroin based pain med then I am all for it. I understand the need for relief, but oxycotin has ruined my dad’s life and he will not admit it even to himself. My mom has to hide his meds and give him a container with a week’s worth at a time so that he won’t take a little bit extra when he is filled with an uncontrollable urge to do so.
