"Echo could hear my voice even when music was playing loudly " USA Today
"With Amazon Echo, it was love at first sight." Re/code
What is Amazon Echo?
Amazon Echo is designed around your voice. It's hands-free and always on. With seven microphones and beam-forming technology, Echo can hear you from across the roomeven while music is playing. Echo is also an expertly tuned speaker that can fill any room with immersive sound.
Echo connects to Alexa, a cloud-based voice service, to provide information, answer questions, play music, read the news, check sports scores or the weather, and moreinstantly. All you have to do is ask. Echo begins working as soon as it detects the wake word. You can pick Alexa or Amazon as your wake word.

Considering what we now know about the NSA spying scandal.... How do we know this device is not gathering our biometrics (voice) along with our habits?
Amazon is trying to sell this A.I. to everyone as if it's your buddy. (check out the two short videos at the link)
This technology reminds me of the movie, "Her".
We know how this ends ping.
Id rather let someone else use ECHO...echo....echo...echo..
I, For One, Welcome Our New Amazon Overlords.
None of the above. It’s kind of a pointless always on voice interface for Google searches.
Here is the link. Just scroll down the page. Oh and be sure to check out the two short videos on the far left on this link. Does that creep you out or what?
Here is the trailer for the movie “Her” that reminds me of the Amazon’s Echo... Creepy!

The whole wi-fi kitchen appliance thing starts to make some sense.
But it will be a cold day in hell before I buy a wi-fi enabled chain saw.
Didn’t Google just admit to audio spying via Chrome?
Yes they did! They are soooo loving....
“Just a moment... Just a moment... I’ve just picked up a fault in the EA-35 unit. It’s going to go 100% failure within 72 hours.”
I own one and i’m not enthused.
Most of the time Echo doesn’t understand. Even simple questions are not understood.
It doesn’t listen when it’s in sleep mode. You need to use the term Alexis or Amazon to wake it.
So far i give it thumbs down.
I love mine so far. I have had it for two months and so far I have managed to connect 5 lights, 2 ceiling fans, the living room TV and both of my thermostats. I can turn the lights off or on by voice. I can turn the TV off or on. I can turn the ceiling fans on or off. I have the thermostat integrated to the point I can adjust the temp up or down, turn the AC off and read the current set temperature.
Now I am working on integrating it to my home (ADT) security system. This doesn’t look straightforward but I am trying.
We also use her to play music, set alarms, timers, grocery lists and of course knock knock jokes.
All in all pretty slick for 99 bucks
Soon everything will have a micro-controller in it. This will happen, not because it is needed but because it is possible.
The cost to make powerful, tiny micro-controllers is dropping to pennies. Soon there will be wi-fi enabled salt and pepper shakers that notify restaurants they need to be refilled.
AI. Internet of things. Genetic engineering. Robotics. Nanotech. Brave new world.
Imagine your house suddenly disliking your actions..
I'm sorry Dave, I can't release the lock on the beer valve.
New directives indicate you've exceeded your monthly ration.
Blood panel analysis indicates excessive levels of THC as well as four new STD's.
I'm sorry Dave but TSA directives mandate helmet lock until TSA/Medicare Team arrives.

I really enjoyed the movie Her. In the end I think the AI’s got together, built a new and better AI and then they decided it wasn’t good for a human to fall in love with an AI. The humans in it seemed so empty.
