That’s a nice idea to remember our dads and uncles, brothers and friends who are gone and left behind kids, and lets remember our old high school buddies who went to war, and our service buddies, who didn’t live long enough to become dads.

Three of Mother’s Brothers served in WWII, maybe four but not certain about one. Daddy and two of his brothers were also in WWII.

Also a bunch of my in laws. All have passed away.

Starbuck's coffee shop had the most poignant Memorial Day salute to the fallen:

As you walk in, right near the entrance, a table is set, covered w/ a white cloth, with one place setting and a fallen soldier's camouflage hat.

The place setting awaits the fallen soldier....a dinner plate, a wine glass, a bud vase w/ a red rose, and a lighted votive candle........the candle flame stretched high......saluting our fallen heroes.

In Starbuck's near military bases---soldier get free coffee all day--their kids get cake pops.

Starbucks founder and CEO Howard Schultz is very vocal in support of the military---is leading an effort to urge industry to hire returning vets.

Schultz also supports conceal/carry---and though he'd prefer guns not be brought into S/bucks, I have seen coffee buyers sporting guns in hip holsters.

Starbuck's donates its baked goods to area charities, as well.

Thank you for the opportunity. My Dad served in the Canadian Army during the “big one”. He served a total of four consecutive years in Europe from 1940 to 1944. Came home with what we would now call, “PTSD”. I was born in 1950. Last time I saw him was 1959, due to his condition. He died in 1969. I’m sure he would have loved to have been a great father, but some people handle things differently than others do. You go away to war thinking it might be a year or so, but then four years later ...

My husband's father served with the USMC at Peleliu. He got a Purple Heart for taking shrapnel. He passed away years ago; I never met him. But my husband and his two boys and my son all served in the USMC, as well (Viet Nam era and Iraq).
