That would be my guess . . .
... its all them there green shoots popping up from the nObama economy and QE.
NCAA Penny’s has excellent quality mens clothing at VERY low prices if you shop their sales.
You’re right; it is getting worse, and for buying anything we’ll be going to Wal-Mart because it will be the last place left - the giant bodega.
The mall near me has a tattoo parlor, and more and more of it is dedicated to food; most Americans are reduced to buying cheap garbage from Red China, and those businesses built around catering to Americans with spending money are going the way of the dodo. They are getting a short stay of execution selling to childless young & middle-aged people fortunate enough to be working, but that is very temporary; in a few years they will “attrite out” and are being replaced by foreigners who don’t p!ss away money for labels.
I’ve noticed that our clothing sizes have been adapted for the “new Americans” (Hispanics and Asians). A “large” from 20 years ago is now “extra large”; I believe because of the macho culture clothing stores would never be able to sell a “medium” to a 5’3” Mexican...just tell him he’s “large/grande”.
The only time I go to the mall anymore is when JC Penney send me a $10 coupon off a $10 purchase. Sometimes they send me one and I still don’t go. I like to use them for socks and underwear.
While clothing/shoes are one thing I won’t order online (because I need to know they fit well before buying them), just about everything else can be bought online - the mall operating model is dead. I never enjoyed them (except for the arcades years ago), but after watching “replacement Americans” from Asia try on shoes after removing their sandals, I’ve had enough. The few times I have to go to malls, I’m shocked by 1) how many foreigners are there - working and “shopping”, and 2) how few people are carrying anything. One very real problem for any type of brick & mortar store is people coming in, looking for exactly what they need...then buying it elsewhere online right then & there.
“Obamas economy makes it hard to buy all the things people could buy when they had full-time jobs.”
The average household income has been declining for 20 years. Almost all of the new jobs created since 2008 have been part time with no benefits. Despite the government continuously reporting negligible inflation food, energy, housing, college education, and health care costs have been escalating at high single digit annual increases. Middle class people are squeezed and are stretching their clothing purchases and now purchase recycled clothing in alternative outlets such as Goodwill Stores, Salvation Army Stores, flea markets, garage sales and consignment shops.
Perhaps some of the Business Insider reporters and economists should take a trip out of Manhattan to middle America and observe where what is left of the middle class is shopping.
For those who don't know me, it's been over a decade of running a hardware store in Detroit. Yes Yes, we compete very well with the big box stores like Home Depot & Menards. We've been blessed with some of the nicest customers you only wish you could meet in anytown in the USA. I don't preoccupy myself with peoples skin color and neither does anyone else around here. That's an Obama thing that unfortunately some of Freeper friend's have also fallen into. It's a color blind operation and thank you Jesus, that's why it works.
There is no future for an operation that hugs the margins so closely and is taxed on the gains so severely, the future just doesn't exist unfortunately. Perhaps if I was younger I would keep going, or I would've gotten out earlier.
What we may need is a President who is very, very good at marketing to lead the country.
Wait! What?
Sanctimonius as well as humble. Nice work.
Donna: Yes, I was joking. Mrs. JohnnyP says I have a sick sense of humor.
Um, cobbler. You can’t get Stillwells Berry Cobbler anymore. And they stopped making Mrs. Smith’s Deep Dish Apple Pie.
The last time I was in Pennys, many years ago, the sales clerks were downright nasty.
Sears clerks were obnoxious and aggressive pushing product warranty agreements.
Haven’t been back, haven’t missed them. Sorry for the good employees, but they can both go tits-up for all I care.
Oh, good. I’ve been in some squabbles lately and I’ve been very touchy. I’ll take this as an ‘I should relax’ lesson.
