Favorite Female vocalists ?
today | Me

Posted on 06/19/2015 5:55:09 PM PDT by Zeneta

While I have a handful or more favorites, I am curious who my fellow freepers elevate to the top of their list?

My list starts with;

Annie Lennox

Kate Bush

Tracey Thorn (Everything but the Girl)

And oddly enough

Cindi Lauper

There's soo many more.

Dolly Parton is right up there.

Thanks for that. It led me to God May Forgive You, But I Don’t. Great performance.

How about Kay Thompson’s nifty, torchy version of “You Let Me Down,” circa 1935?

Ever run into that one?

Like your list. I would add Ann Wilson (Heart)

I caught Heart live in 1981 in Boulder Co, fronting for the Stones.

Barracuda is such an awesome riff !!!

I also like this riff and song;

The Breeders

No, I haven't run across that one. I believe Jimmy Dorsey had the big hit with that tune. There are a few Kay Thompson recordings on Youtube.

There you go. I’ll mention Mirielle Mathieu, I do like her “Marseillaise.”

Ditto, and Edith Piaf.

Leonard Cohen - Suzanne

And Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water,
Matthew 14:22-23

And he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower,
the Cross

And when he knew for certain only drowning men could see him,
If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, - John 3:14
(in reference to Numbers 21:7-10) "And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." John 12:32

He said "all men will be sailors then until the sea shall free them,"
The "sea" in Scripture is often an allusion to mankind, humanity, "the World". God keeps us in "the World" until we realize that we are drowning, that we need a Savoir.

But he himself was broken, long before the sky would open Forsaken, almost human,
"My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?"

he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone.
"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools... Romans 1:21-22

Pretty good synopsis of the Gospel, especially from a reprobate, secular Jew!
