Students with tags may be "recruited athletes, children of alumni, children of donors or potential donors, or students who are connected to the well connected," according to the former admissions dean. However, Harberson writes, "Asian American students typically don't have these tags."

Clever Orwellian move. Instead of saying they aren't rich or well connected (in comparison to the students who are accepted), she says they don't have a "tag." She's essentially saying the same thing, but she makes use of the fig-leaf word "tag" to conceal her essentially mercenary outlook.

Instead of saying she's in the business of passing on hereditary privilege and instead of saying that she doesn't want a lot of Asian students around whose parents haven't already made in in a big way (or a lot of Asian students of any sort), she puts all the blame on that innocuous word "tag."

This doesn't leave as much time for the extra curriculum activities that "tag" these students for acceptance to the Ivy Leagues. (The school's loss, in my opinion.)

Because nothing screams "boardroom" like four years of French Horn. :)

Some begin to learn English only after starting school, yet they speak like native American citizens after only 6 months. None in the district I taught received the "extra" years of costly, ineffectual language-learning that the illegals are getting.

Compare and contrast that with Mexican border areas, where people who have been living in the US for most/all of their lives (and sometimes for generations) can barely muster a single comprehensible phrase in English.

I have to be careful. I am going to knock myself out patting myself on the back but I knew the answer.

RE: Ronald Reagan said, ‘I don’t care if every seat is held by an Asian if they’ve earned the right to be there.’”

I wonder if there are any politicians who would dare say that today...
