Starting right tackle Anthony Davis of the 49ers, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2010 draft, announced Friday that he is leaving the NFL after just five seasons.
Davis, 25, said in a statement that he plans to take a year or so away from the NFL to allow his body to recover from the physical rigors of his career.
This will be a time for me to allow my brain and body a chance to heal, Davis said. I know many wont understand my decision. Thats OK.

Abolish helmets. They offer a false sense of security.
Football as we know it will not exist in 10 years.
I don’t know. as long as there’s a whole class whose one way out is sports and there is a huge audience, it will endure.
I enjoy watching it. although not with the same fervor of my youth
Don’t let one mangina’ ruin the sport. It’s apparent he didn’t have the balls for it. Heck, even that faggot Sam plays it but in canada. It’s just the lib media trying to wussify us in the same vein they treat that ugly freak Jenner as normal.
High-tech helmets (and the rest of the gear) allow increased collision velocity and do not (cannot) protect against brain-skull collisions (concussions), which are MUCH worse than they were in the leather-helmet no steroid era.
Only FAGGOTS get concussions!! Severe brain damage is no problem for REAL MEN.
Yep. Lawyers and the end of manhood.
The players are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever. The players add mass that stresses the joints and ligaments way beyond normal wear. Medical staff are able to detect injuries and problems almost immediately and almost always err on the side of caution.
Yet some act surprised when the number of injuries have increased and seem more significant.
Some see the game dying. I can’t see it. Changing? Sure. But as Ice-T’s song “Shut Up. Be Happy” says:
All sport broadcasts will proceed as normal.
It’s a major source of distraction for the masses.
I am sure this is because of Jed York.
“Only FAGGOTS get concussions!! Severe brain damage is no problem for REAL MEN.”
Exactly. Thousands played in the NFL and two turn into p*ssies about concussions. Maybe this wuss should play chess. What’s next? A study on the dangers of smoke inhalation with firemen?
As a multi. head injury pt. [my first ones were in High School, I broke 2 different helmets in the same place {the Riddel air helmets}] I support this guys decision to leave the game. It takes 30-40 years for a moderate concussion to heal & depending on where it is located at you can get a world of different problems, from vision problems, to hearing, & let’s not forget about memory & thinking clearly. And if the injury is deep enough in your brain breathing & pulse are affected.
My last one occured on Nov.5th, 1997 in Yuma,Az when I was run over by an ILLEGAL in a hurry to get into an In & out Burger place & had it NOT been for my full face helmet [a Bell Moto 3 {full faced}] So now I have several moderate concussions & have seizures & do not think like I once did, loose my temper a lot more & faster & more violently too. So I stand with this guy
I couldn't agree more. Better yet, just stop watching the NFL. It is merely 1 minute of play for 1 minute of lite beer and cialis commercials. Try watching Rugby or Aussie Rules Football... no pads, and pure athleticism... constantly running clock... injuries? Play goes on downfield while the battle-wounded are tended to. I just can't bear to watch American Football anymore.
Nothing like sitting there in your underwear, your beer gut sagging between your legs, and flexing your keyboard muscles on the internet. Hey, tough guy, why don’t you tell that to him in person. Yeh, we know, you would s**t your pants before any words came out. Then you would flee to your keyboard and start flexing.
I’m 6’2’’ and a Jiu Jitsu practitioner. Was on the Stanford football team at a certain time. So yes, I think he’s a p*ssy.
I got a concussion for the first time this winter. Miserable. My boys play football and, though I love the sport, said my only request is that they never carry the ball. Brain injuries can change your life and I think this player made the right decision.
My brother has become friends with a former Viking (wish I could remember his name) who is now suffering from brain issues in his old age. The stories my brother shares almost make me cry.
Blessings to you and your continued healing.
So, this guy decided that potential brain issues aren’t worth millions of dollars. Good for him.
Getting hit while riding a motorcycle is a sight more of a “hit” than football playing. Sorry for your health issues, but the concussions I received while riding my bike, or just making catapult with my brothers while uncomfortable, are no reason to stop having fun....and playing football was a BLAST.
