Brave Dog Takes on Bear in Southwest Florida
NBC Miami ^ | 6/5

Posted on 06/05/2015 7:24:58 PM PDT by nickcarraway

A brave dog chased a bear three times his size off his owner's property near Naples and it was all caught on camera.

A neighbor in the Golden Gate community filmed the whole thing.

The Pitbull mix protected his family and property by chasing the black bear away.

The owner says the dog felt threatened by the bear so he did his job.

But the owner wasn't surprised to see the video because the dog routinely chases black bears.

Florida Fish and Wildlife says bears can be avoided by keeping any food inside and securely stored.

Absolutely nothing unusual about this...

I hunted black bear in East Tennessee and Ontario, Canada with Plott Hounds...The happiest I’ve ever seen Plotts was when they were on a bear and about to tree it...

My seven boys and girls do this stuff all the time; problem is they will tree the bear then work in shifts to keep it up there for weeks if I let them.

Florida Fish and Wildlife says bears can be avoided by keeping any food inside and securely stored.

This is such BS. Why do we, as humans, have to modify OUR behavior to avoid confrontations with bears?

“Because the bears were here first.” - FFW

When the neighbors pigs kept getting killed and eaten by a black bear this is what FFW told him. However, now that numbers are back where “they” want them to be Florida is opening up a short black bear season. Otherwise, SSS.

Braver than "Caitlyn" Jenner? That is all that matters, you know.

What a great photo but is that a dog or a kitty cat? I can’t tell.

The Pitbull mix protected his family and property by chasing the black bear away.

My Pit has backed off all wild life from our property for the last six years. He has never been an attack dog others think the breed is. I do feel protected. And NO ONE gets close to my wife without his supervision. A truly great dog.

I had a bear turn over my trash bin several times winter before last. He strung trash all across the yard dragging the bags to go rummage through somewhere.

I ended up buying a cheap Walmart spray bottle and two of the biggest bottles of Walmart Louisiana Hot sauce to mix half/half with water. I then would spray over the bags once or twice a week and outside around the lid.

Didn’t have a bear problem after that.

Is that the same cat that made the man call 911 for help to get back in his house? I read it yesterday but don’t remember where.

Great picture, by the way.
