'Senior Prank' Leads to $2,000 in Damages at Maryland High School
NBC Washington ^ | Jun 4, 2015

Roughly 12 hours after Chesapeake High School's senior class graduated, vandals returned to the Pasadena school and caused significant property damage, Anne Arundel County Police said.

Investigators are now searching for four people who appeared on security camera footage from Tuesday night, spray-painting graffiti, jamming locks and causing other damage, according to The Capital. . Police believe it was a senior prank, police spokesman Lt. Glenn Shanahan said. The vandalism caused $2,000 in damages, schools spokesman Bob Mosier said.

The suspects, wearing what appear to be masks or face paint, arrived at the school that night, police said. Three of them appear to be male and a fourth appears to be female, police said.

The vandalism was still visible Wednesday morning, but did not affect school activities, Mosier said.

This generation doesn’t understand the difference between a senior prank and vandalism.

Of course our senior prank did take some time to get corrected.

It took several people to get that reassembled VW beetle off the top of the veranda at the entrance of the school.

If this happened once, it happened 10,000 times.

Don’t most all “senior pranks” cause a lot of monetary damage and usually to the school? And since when do public schools care a damn thing about money? They piss away money because someone else is paying all the freight.... The taxpayers.

When one of my brothers graduated, he and some friends took a farm wagon apart and put it back together in a teacher's living room. This was in the early 1950’s. Another time, they got a car from the side of the road and drove it off the road into a ravine. The big problem was that a neighbor saw them, recognized them, called the law. My dad was told before my brother and fellow criminals got home. My dad was not a very happy camper according to my brother. No damage was done either time.

The year after I graduated from college the “prank” was clogging all the drains in the Chemistry lab, turning on the fire hoses and chaining the doors shut. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage. Two feet of water will do that. Bunch of idiots.

I don’t recall what my year’s prank was. The year before I graduated some genius (literally!) broke into the Admin building (he worked there, duplicated a key or something) and reprogrammed the computer that would play a song on the hour for the main clock chimes.

The building had a gold dome. He and some friends covered it with black plastic, and put huge Mickey Mouse ears on it of cardboard.

6 am rolls around and the first song plays. “M-I-C...K-E-Y....”

It took some time to turn it off. (He may have chained the doors as well).

After awhile he came forward and he and his friends removed the plastic and the ears. They threatened to hold up his diploma, but in the end it was “no harm no foul”.

The class before us filled the coke machines in the teachers lounge with old Milwaukee. The class before that replaced pre-recorded morning announcements with Bluto’s Germans bombing Pearl Harbor speech from Animal House. I remember seniors being spelled on the football field with weed killer as well. (it took a week for that to show up)

It used to be gag stuff but now every year we are seeing vandalism instead of pranks.

“It used to be gag stuff but now every year we are seeing vandalism instead of pranks.”

At some point in time someone had painted a phrase on the metal roof of one of the old buildings on campus. Very visible and right off one of the main roads.

“I used to not be able to spel engineer - now I are one.” (IIRC)

It was there when I got there - and there when I left 4 years later!

Being (like most here) an amateur psychologist ... I'd say the problem is in the lack of true humor in children these days

Even Eddy Murphy cleaned up his act when he became a parent

I don't think I've heard a kid belly laugh in decades ....

Matter of fact .... neither have WE.

Kids are no different than adults in a lot of ways, and I would think that ... while they were spray painting, they were giggling to themselves and joking together, but like anyone that talks to themselves should ask ....

When you talk to yourself .... what do you say ?

Back in the day, OUR Senior Prank was covering the flagpole with old used tires. We found a way to get them up, and then AROUND the flagpole, after which they were lowered.

70-odd tires, covered the flagpole to within a few feet of the top.

Took about an hour and a sawzall to get them all off, and loaded in a truck to take them back to the dump.
