California Earthquake Prediction: Experts Rubbish Claim that Massive 9.8 Tremor Will Hit West Coast

The 24-minute-long earthquake prophecy video, which has now been watched by over half-a-million people, predicts a massive 9.8 earthquake will hit California at 4pm local time on 28 May.

The clip published by Frank Hoogerbeets, the founder and president of Ditrianum Media, claims he was able to assess the 'horrific' event using a computer program called Solar System Scope.

The Huffington Post UK citing Hoogerbeets noted that his theory was based on the calculation that the 9.8 quake will strike when "no less than five planetary alignments will converge with the Earth."

He claims that even Nostradamus, the famous French apothecary and purported prophet, has made similar reference to the critical planetary positions, before an impending calamity.

Hoogerbeets, recently, once again urged people to take precaution. "I advice people in critical areas along fault lines in the world to be on extra alert around May 28. Be prepared. Have an escape plan ready," he said on his Twitter account.

However, American science blogger Phil Plait has completely rubbished the claim a total 'baloney.'

Plait in an article published in Slate wrote: "First, there is simply no way an alignment of planets can cause an earthquake on Earth. It's literally impossible. I've done the math on this before; the maximum combined gravity of all the planets under ideal conditions is still far less than the gravitational influence of the Moon on the Earth, and the Moon at very best has an extremely weak influence on earthquakes."

Noting that the claim made by Frank Hoogerbeets was unfounded, Plait added: "This all stems from a video by someone who I believe is sincere but also profoundly wrong on essentially every level. It's been picked up by various credulous places online, then spread around by people who haven't been properly skeptical about it."

A Hoogerbeets can dream, can’t he?

Horoscopes are an astonishingly accurate way of predicting the behavior of people who believe in and follow horoscopes!

We Scorpios with Sagittarius rising don't believe in horoscopes.

I believe in earthquakes, though. Especially if there's money in it. (Announcer's Voice) The Drill Institute for Earthquake Prevention has been functioning successfully for a year now. Are YOU ready? All to this that Cal Tech says that the San Andreas fault will only generate an 8.2 magnitude earthquake at best.

The ‘89 quake center was 100 miles from San Francisco/Oakland.
You drop a 7 in the center of the Bay Area and its going to be bad.

Back in the mid 1960s, Paul Harvey mentioned a bunch of world wide horoscope casters were predicting a world wide calamity when the planets aligned that week.

He said that even if a small trembler happened it would vindicate them in the eyes of “true believers”.
Nothing happened.

Same for this one. If even a small trembler happens anywhere....

I wish these meatballs would learn the inverse square law.

The inverse-square law stating that any intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of that intensity. Intensity (is inversely proportional) to 1/distance squared.

Newton’s law of universal gravitation follows the inverse-square law.

The Sun is large enough for its gravity to influence the entire solar system. But Jupiter is only 1/1000th the mass of the Sun, and it is a very long way away from Earth.

Only Alaska in the U.S. is even capable of a 9.0.

Not exactly...

The Cascadia Subduction Zone, off the coast of Washington and Oregon, is quite capable of generating a 9.0. In fact, seismologists have predicted that someday there will be what they call a "Full 9 Rip" from the CSZ. In 1700, the CSZ DID drop a 9.0 estimated quake, based on historical records in Japan and local native American stories.

The CSZ is exactly the same type of fault that the 2011 Great Tohoku Quake in Japan is....and that was a 9.0.

This is the same reason why horoscopes are nonsense.”

You may want to rethink the horoscope issue a bit, particularly in the case of Obama and Bill Clinton. Leos tend to be very narcissistic and have a very dark side.

It is just a coincidence that a movie about a big earthquake is coming out...

This is more useful information from the movie “San Andreas”.

Listen to the scientist, not the “I can puts up a video” crowd

Can't trust "scientists" on warming, why trust 'em on quakes? What kind of grants are they seeking?

No, I’m not “rethinking” that. We know what causes narcissism, it has to do with interrupted development, it is not something you are born with.

“All to this that Cal Tech says that the San Andreas fault will only generate an 8.2 magnitude earthquake at best.”

The morons at Caltech in 2008 said that global warming was a problem. In the seven years since then they’ve been wrong.

http://www.caltech.edu/content/global-warming-science-and-solutions

So if they say that the San Andreas can only generate an 8.2 quake then it won’t hurt to be prepared for a 9.5 because these people have been wrong before.

Besides, if you’re prepared for a 9.5 then an 8.2 should be a cakewalk for you.
