The California cluster was part of a nine-state Salmonella Paratyphi B outbreak, according to a news release from the California Department of Public Health.
Most of the 53 patients nationwide reported eating sushi containing raw tuna, the release stated.
To date, 10 patients have been hospitalized. No deaths were reported.
The California-based patients were spread over six counties; including nine in Los Angeles, six in Orange, four in Riverside, seven in San Diego, one in Santa Barbara and four in Ventura, according to the CDPH.

Never understood how eating cold slimy raw fish became popular. Elitist crap I say. I mean I have tried it and it is just not appetizing. And I pretty much like everything. I would rather it be cooked.

Yeah, that’s why one shouldn’t eat raw fish unless it’s been flash frozen and held to -4 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 days or -31 for 15 hours to kill the parasites.

This Kansan loves Ahi tuna. I’ve found a couple of places that serve it. There are flights in daily that bring us provincials fresh fish. I’m not too fond of sushi or sashimi but love this.
First time I ever had raw fish was in Maui...talked to the poor waiter for 30 minutes about the hazards of consuming it raw. Have enjoyed it ever since. Big fan of poke too. Of course, I am of the opinion if you are going to try raw fish or fish in general, the Hawaiian islands is the place to do it. Nothing fresher.

I think it's an emperor-without-his-clothes kind of thing. I'm not buying it when someone is eating raw fish and telling me how delicious it is. Hell, just give me a peanut butter sandwich.
