Cypriot native Garo Yepremian, the former NFL kicker who helped the Miami Dolphins win consecutive NFL championships but is best remembered for a Super Bowl blooper, died of cancer on Friday at the age of 70.
Yepremian's wife, Maritza, said he died at a hospital in Media, Pennsylvania. His illness was diagnosed in May 2014, she said.

It’s a shame this is what he’s remembered for, because he was a pretty good kicker. He was one of the early soccer-style kickers - those of you under 30 might not even know the term because it’s what everyone does now. There is no need to distinguish styles anymore; it’s just kicking.
I’m a skins man, and that was the first SB I ever watched. He WAS a good kicker.

No kidding. He was way old back then, now way young. Ouch!
So sad. I grew up in South Florida and loved the Dolphins and was so excited for the 72 season. We have lost several of that team now. They were quite a group. RIP.
I believe he was the first soccer style kicker and played for the Lions. He was the bane of Alex Karras who relayed the “keek a touchdown” story. It may have not been true.
I thought it might be Jan Stenerud or Pete Gogolak. It was Gogolak by about 2 years.
I feel terrible. I sat in the stands in Miami and watche Garo kick many many times. Loved the guy. He was great.
