Big Spring Landowners Paid to Accommodate Jade Helm, Says Mayor

IG SPRING - Military officials have negotiated contracts with local ranchers to conduct Jade Helm training on their property, according to Big Spring Mayor Larry McLellan.

However, he said residents will not be "forced out of their homes" to accommodate troops during the large-scale military exercise, scheduled to run July 15 through September 15.

McLellan had no details about the contracts supposedly offered to Big Spring homeowners. Military officials were not available to answer questions about how many ranchers were being displaced or inconvenienced due to Jade Helm, and how much they would receive in compensation.

Jade Helm operations planners previously confirmed training will only be conducted on private and public land with the permission of landowners or regional authorities.

One lifelong Big Spring resident told NewsWest 9 he would not accept any amount of money to surrender his home to troops.

"I support our troops, but when they're trying to take over our civilians, that ain't cool," he said. "[Those are] their homes. That's where they live."

McLellan told NewsWest 9 residents could anticipate "[hearing] more airplane traffic," but no other major changes.

"We might also see new faces around town and in the grocery stories... but I don't think we're going to have people kicked out of their homes or [military personnel] knocking on doors in the middle of the night," he said.

McLellan confirmed Jade Helm personnel would be purchasing groceries and other supplies locally. Operations planners and city officials calculated "wherever they're training could see as much as $150,000 increase in sales" during the two-month exercise.

I already participated in a detention drill at the Mohammed cartoon contest. I realize the LEOs saved our lives, but we were held and had our vehicles taken for quite awhile.

Without being to wordy in the memes, I’m not directing this at LE, just .mil. LEOs detain folks all the time, it’s their basic job, your experience was just a bit unusual, but it was a LE operation.

Having the military rounding up civilians as part of a “drill” and then turning them over to unnamed federal agencies for “detention” just stinks on ice.

I understand completely and agree. But we were bussed away and the FBI took over so was a little strange feeling.

It only took three posts. I was going to write the same sentiment.

You really got to know all of the amendments anymore. They are going to give Barry a T-shirt when he is forced at gunpoint from the Oval in 2016: “I BROKE THEM ALL!”

I know a great way to bring this exercise to a screeching halt, because I have seen it happen before. I got to see a major military exercise halted for several days because of it.

Ban coffee sales to other than local residents, who can only buy “customary” amounts for their own use.

In that other exercise, soldiers were dispatched to drive hundreds of miles to buy coffee on a Sunday holiday with most stores closed, because many senior officers and NCOs refused to continue without it.

If nothing else, it would toss a huge monkey wrench into the exercise.

Prepper & HAM Radio PING

Would be very helpful if any amateur radio folks in the region could pass along info on the Jade Helm happenings.

Thank you!

I don’t know where they were headed. Yesterday I saw 6 MRAPs being hauled up I45 just south of Houston, on my drive home from work.

I know they are coming to my area, and Big Spring, which is not far away. We already have a good size military presence where I live, so may not notice anything. Aren’t the Jade Helm supposed to be wearing arm bands?

Hard to say what we would be able to hear in my neck of the woods, I am about 100 Mi west of Big Spring. But these days mil uses a lot of SATCOM and not so much HF.

I'm not paranoid about this in an Alex Jones sort of way but I do plan on taking note of what I see. I expect there’ll be some activity in my neck of the woods.

Between my dual band and the new QRP radio I just ordered I can monitor from 150 KHz up to about 800 MHz with very portable equipment, but again, I don't expect to hear much from them.

I have no paranoia either but the military still covers our bands, they are listening. Just a word of advise.

Damn hard to triangulate HF, just some advise
