A Californian start-up is seeking funding to make a computer that will cost $9 (£6) in its most basic form.
Next Thing wants $50,000 to finish development of the credit-card sized Chip computer.
The first versions will have a 1Ghz processor, 512MB of Ram and 4GB of onboard storage.
The gadget, due to go on general release in early 2016, could become yet another rival to the popular Raspberry Pi barebones computer.

This would be great. I could finally smash my computer against the wall when it crashes and go get a new one for the price of a subway sandwich.
Years ago, there was an initiative to build a sub-$100 PC that could be distributed in the Third World to lift up the most poor and remote areas of the world.
What ever happened to that?

Note: the Raspberry Pi ran into problems when it was discovered to be susceptible to malfunctions due to optical interference from certain type of light sources.
I initially thought this was a scam (or at least a bit) but after reading and some exploration, this can be a magic moment! The capabilities and such small size make this an enormous advance in computing (not capability but access by mankind).
After see this on TV and reading about its capability, I am sold! This will have a major influence on humanity!
I just wish that I was younger and had the money to invest in this...wow!
I actually poo-poo’ed this in an earlier post before I understood just how important this is going to be...geez!
