What Historical Event Should Be a Movie?

Posted on 05/08/2015 8:29:27 PM PDT by MNDude

If you could take any historical event and have it made into a movie (and it would be made to your liking) which historical event would it be? Hannibal? Maccabees? Etc.

I’d like to see a movie (or a miniseries) about the death of Edward the Confessor and the run up to the Battle of Hastings.

Well, I have long mused upon my Galileo movie, written and directed by, and starring yours truly.

Galileo on his balcony, putting his eye to his rudimentary telescope and seeing the moons of Jupiter. That was a moment.

The REAL story of Chivington and Sand Creek, and the battle of the Washita. Completely different from what the popular view is.

Same for Waba Yuma and Captain Jack and the Lava Beds Battle.

Lepanto. I still recall my visit to Spain in which iI found in a museum the flag of of Don Juan of Austria. It was on a mast and was HUGE. How many Americans know of the battle and the victory that saved Italia from a Turkish invasion.

Co-starring Richard Dawkins, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye.

Historical event, not science-fiction.

I hope they don't botch it! The Saxon Stories are far and away the best books I've ever read.

My biggest fear is that they don't capture Uhtred's character properly. Cornwell portrays him as a pagan, yes, but the fact that he is as a whole an arrogant, selfish, angry person ultimately indicts his own outlook as much as the Christian one he so dislikes. The BBC could very possibly focus on the anti-Christian aspect of Uhtred's character and leave the other, equally important facets of his personality untouched.

In any event, I won't be passing up the series unless it turns out to be worse than the History Channel's Vikings, which is a pretty low bar for acceptance!

A side story could include the decision making process behind selecting the aircraft for the mission. At first, the Army considered the B-18, B-23, and B-26 before settling on the B-25.

How about a movie celebrating diverse cultures, a movie about the discovery of Kuru among the Papua cannibals?

I have always thought that the Spartans were extraordinarily brave at Thermopylae, all 300 of them.

What confuses me is how the 800+ from Thespia (pretty much their entire male population) that also gave their lives under Spartan command are glossed over/forgotten is a travesty.

The machinations that led to the Federal Reserve Act in 1913. That would be an eye opener for many.

You seem to be mixing your Biblical stories...

It’s Samson and Delilah, or David and Goliath.

Perhaps I missed your sarcams tag?

"The Doolittle Raid, also known as the Tokyo Raid,"

Refer to Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944) It's a little old but it is about the Doolittle Raid.

A good companion movie is The Purple Heart (1944) which is about the Japanese show trial of the Doolittle crews captured when their planes didn't make it to their planned landing destinations after the raid.
