You’ll never hear the Obama administration pass on an opportunity to gloat about the miracles they think they’ve managed to pull off over the past seven years to get America’s economy back on track.
The only problem with that is, it’s not remotely true. Somehow, the spin doctors at the White House always manage to cherry pick rare instances of economic improvement and turn them into something much bigger.
If you want a real indication of how President Barack Obama’s economy is fairing, just look to a recent report that shows a coming “retail apocalypse,” with major retailers across the country planning on shutting the doors to thousands of stores due to a sharp decline in discretionary consumer spending.

I fix up cars when my IT/low voltage business is slow. I get 90% online but when I need something quick I use advanceauto.com and they always have coupons out there that save you about 40% off their retail price (putting them slightly higher than other online sites) couple that with fatwallet.com cash back of 5.5% and it’s not to bad.
Many offer free returns..

Remember saving accounts that paid 4%?

So, to get any sort of yield on an investment, people have to put their money into the stock market.

There is none word which Obama and democrats have managed to plant in the minds of most Americans, including most of the media, and which is a complete lie. The word is ‘recovery’.

They’re major. They own three independent brands including Einstein Bros. Bagels, Noah’s New York Bagels, and Manhattan Bagel. Over 800 restaurants in all in the US alone.
I know Best Buy is no longer renewing their leases in the big 50,000 - 70,000 warehouse stores. They’re going to let them expire and go small somewhere between 5000 to 7,000 sq. ft. They’re adopting the Apple Store model, by using the stores as a showroom. You won’t be able to go home with any merchandise, but it can be delivered within one to three days depending upon where you live.
There are a few online operations where you can enter your measurements, order a style and it is cut and made for you. Takes about 2-3 weeks to get the item. There are others where you put in your measurements, fill out a questionnaire set up a budget and delivery schedule and they send you outfits according to the budget and schedule.
I tried the first and got what I ordered (and need to adjust the waist measurement by 1/2 inch LOL). I have friends that swear by the latter. As more people try these, it will be harder for some stores to compete.

I buy most things used these days, cars, clothes, furniture, etc. the only things I buy new are electronics and shoes.
I get great quality for 1/4 the price. You ever buy a shirt new that after a few washes pills up and/or fades? Buying used you can avoid getting crap fabric.
Oh, BS. The Democrats keep telling us the economy is going gangbusters. But here we are with more anecdotal evidence that more businesses are contracting and laying off.

Well, in order for you to buy a used thing someone has to buy it new first. But I got your point anyway.

You should see Annapolis Mall. Thriving. I guess it just depends where you are. I was down in Orlando and the Millennium Mall is crowded but it is upscale. I think the poor or working class areas are doing poorly but the upper class areas are doing well.
Sorry, but the number of stores that close in a given year is a meaningless number unless compared with the “normal” number.
Without such comparison this isn’t evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, it’s just a number.
For example, what if I told you 2.4M Americans are going to die this year, and that this indicates a sudden crisis in our medical system. It indicates nothing of the sort, in truth. The death rate hasn’t changed a bit.
Almost 1/3 of the stores you listed are Radio Shack, which has gone out of business because it had a crappy business model. Don’t know how they stayed in business so long.
Some unknown percentage of stores go out of business for similar reasons or due to structural shifts such as the move to online shopping. Only after you factor out these factors and compare over time does the number of closings have any meaning.
