Attorneys for a transgender prison inmate said Wednesday that she could have sex reassignment surgery as early as next month if California correctional officials quickly approve the procedure.
Corrections officials said they are working to schedule the surgery but need more time.
U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar last month ordered the state to pay for the surgery. Michelle-Lael Norsworthy’s lawyers said in a court filing that a qualified surgeon is available as early as June 5. Surgeons also are available in July and August to operate on the 51-year-old, whose birth name is Jeffrey Bryan Norsworthy. …

What kind of surgery do the lawyers want? How is that related to the problems of their client?
It is no more a sex change than it is putting on makeup to cover a heavy beard. It is, however, superficial changing of configuration mutilation.

I mean, change the policy entirely. I mean anyone who has a death sentence doesn’t last more than a month on death row. Including all existing death row inmates.
There will be an initial backlog to clear up, but that will soon be over.
If it is so important a judge orders a sex change within a month of the order issued, then all the death row sentences ought to be carried out with the same swiftenss of purpose.
U.S. Supreme Court just said a state doesn’t have to pay for sex mutilation surgeries of even provide opposite -sex hormones.
Will the state have to also pay for the hormones this inmate will need for the rest of his life in order to KEEP the appearance of a woman? Will “she” be reassigned to a woman’s prison once the surgery is done?
I know an inmate in a federal prison who has been suffering from a knee injury for nearly ten years that they refuse to operate on and he can no longer walk to the mess hall. When a tooth needed to be filled for a cavity, they pulled it instead. How is it sex “reassignment” surgery is okay and basic medical needs are neglected?
It shouldn't take more than about 10 seconds with a sharp knife.
If an inmate with an improvised knife gave him a sex-change in the showers, that would be a serious crime. If a surgeon does the same thing, it’s a constitutional right? Democrats are the party of silly.
I support taking it off and putting it where his/her nose was. Then he/she would look like Horton the Elephant.
