"And I am not against cartoons dealing with Islam per se (several very good ones have appeared in FR over the years), but for staging an event in which creating offensive cartoons is the primary purpose."
Oh good grief!
"Geller did what she did SOLELY to provoke. She didnt just insult a religion, she insulted the one religion who responds with violence. What was her point, and what had she planned if someone got hurt?"
Because Geller had the lawful right to do what she did, and the shooters did not have the lawful right to do what they did. Yaelle is using the argumentative logic of blaming the rape victim for wearing provocative clothing.
It’s going to he used as an excuse to do the same thing and worse to Christianity.
Talk about effed up priorities in our nation. Islamo-fascists are not pausing to point fingers. The answer to your question is she proved the homeland threat is real and we continue to do absolutely nothing. Our leaders can’t even agree on what to call these murderous bastards. The Enemy works! There, problem solved. Let’s move on to how to deal with them rather than focus on offensive team names or whether Tom can marry Bill.
Provocative, and Insulting????
It sounds to me that you are making excuses for ISIS????
You make is sound as if ISIS is reasonable...
Oh so you think people should coward and let the other side control the debate???
Nothing could be more Anti- American and highly proactive and insulting than what you said.
You are coward with a SLAVE MENTALITY....
You think by appeasing law breakers they are going to spare you some how. All that does is embolden them!
To restate, my point is that those who call Geller provocative and insulting are wrong. She is a brave woman who is standing up for freedom, much like those who defied the “whites only” lunch counter rules back in the 1960’s.
Put a sock in it. Pam Geller did nothing wrong. In fact, she lured two muslime crazies out of their piss-soaked dens only to get smoked in Texas. She should hold more events such as this.
Look. The question was, was she wrong? She was within the confines of free speech. By law she was correct, as is the Klansman, as is Piss Christ.
For someone trying to be a good human being (jew christian or secular) it was wrong because it didn’t follow the golden rule. Period.
I despise the actions of Islamists. Don’t get me wrong. That wasn’t the issue.
I also enjoy having smoked out the media’s hypocrisy. They laud mocking Mormons but don’t realize this contest was nothing different than that offensive play.
Absolutely all of those things (this contest, piss Christ, etc) are all protected speech. I would die for the right to protect them. That doesn’t mean they are morally right.
She also didn’t peacefully protest sharia law. She meant to offend, like Piss Christ. And you know it.
Good will always prevail over evil...that is why I am confident that the US will never fall....and that Israel will stand against the hordes of darkness that is Islam!
She absolutely did peacefully protest. Her event was not violent.
Did she know it would be offensive? I believe she did.
But offense is not violence, and is not illegal (at least yet).
You are 100% right I misread what you said. Think you made good point too.
I apologize for lashing out, and I’m going to make sure I keep rereading something before I respond. It will not happen again.
And don't be too hard on yourself. This is an important topic, and we must all attempt to defend Geller as vigorously as possible. So your passion is very understandable.
