Looks bad for the police, the paddy wagon nickle ride is famous, it started with Boston and NYPD but I thought it was eliminated years ago because of these issues.

Both Blacks and Whites have been brutally abused in the back of patty wagons for over 100 years. I don’t think this is racial, but the rioters certainly think so.

It may well be famous, but I would need to see proof that such a tactic was employed in this case specifically if someone asked me to hold the driver accountable in a criminal case.

What does the GPS data indicate?

Did anyone on city streets witness the van moving erratically?

Did any business security cams or other cams record any such incident?

Has the van driver been interviewed? has he given a statement? Has he submitted to a lie detector test?

Freddie dragged his feet across the ground heading to the van. I say he is an addict/dealer. He’s been in jail many times. Maybe he was under the influence of drugs when put into the van.

Maybe he thinks that if he gets hurt, he will go to the hospital, instead of jail

If the “rough ride” killed him, it looks like manslaughter. I don’t think the police should mete out punishments. That is for courts, judges and juries.

People need to emphasize that this happened in a Rat-Run town, no conservatives to blame for this one.

The account does not allege some kind of apocryphal "nickel ride" abuse.

It argues that Gray fell and hit his head on an exposed bolt in the police van.

It looks like the failure of the police to strap him down is what they are mostly likely guilty of.

But of course, had they strapped him down, it would have been racist and abusive as well.

It is possible the guy was trying to injure himself so as to avoid a jail cell or something. It would be hard to prove. If he was otherwise restrained, they should have strapped him in. Normally people do not wear restraints in larger vehicles like buses and large vans. But I would think if the person had their hands and/or feet restrained that they should also be strapped to the seat. If not the current practice it is high time that start doing it.

The only thing I can draw from is movies and TV shows. Usually the people have handcuffs and leg chains but no seatbelt. But that is proof of nothing in the real world.

Anderson Cooper interviewed an unidentified friend of an officer at the Gray arrest yesterday who claimed to know what happened.

http://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2015/04/30/ac-cooper-intv-gray-officer-person.cnn

points he/she made: the wagon has GPS so any “nickel ride” would show up on that.

the wagon was stopped to shackle Gray’s legs because he was irate

Gray was not belted in when shackled, due to lack of room and the possibility of injury from a still irate Gray.

mayor and police officials know all this and didn’t speak up. they let the riots happen and then blamed the police.

as always, on these sorts of things, it’s best to wait and see. rather than jumping to conclusions.

I’m sure they have seatbelts, right? I mean they care so much about all of us that we have to wear them, right?
