No quarterbacks going into the NFL rarely go in as starters...they do need time to be worked with and to season. A Heisman trophy suggests however that an incoming candidate has the potential to be further developed.

I think we will see something different...more solid playing with an improvement in using his assets... that is, the rest of his team!

I hope you're right - I'm rooting for him.

“The majority of Heisman winners are NFL busts.”

Looks that way: http://www.complex.com/sports/2014/12/ranking-last-50-heisman-trophy-winners/

See post 39 as to what I think Teebow’s real issue is! You also have to wonder about the “Roy Hobbs” quality of Teebow’s desire to play. He’s had a lot of crap thrown at him...but by golly he still has this desire to play. 2 years out of it and he still lives rent free in the heads of some these leftist naysayers...he makes them nervous because his ability to inspire Christians to improve themselves and grow into a stronger faith.

The leftists know that another “great awakening” and general revolt against this top down imposed Godlessness can begin with a simple spark. They fear there might be other Teebow’s like him so they try to beat them down as they arise!

It’s one of those things that separates smart GMs from dumb. Smart GMs don’t trade up in the draft (because no player is worth more than 1 draft pick), trade down a lot (because more picks is more chances to get good players), and steer way clear of Heisman winners. It’s always amazing to me how many teams just can’t understand these simple rules. Any perusal of the draft methods of perennial contenders shows these rules. And yet next weekend we’ll see at least a dozen teams violate rule 1, some in a desperate attempt to violate rule 3. Meanwhile Belichick will be using rule 2 to stack up at least 10 draft picks next year.

Nope. Tebow’s real issue is he can’t read defenses and his throws land randomly. He had a 1000 yard rusher and his defense shaved 15 points a game off what they allowed. If he looked at that and thought he had to “do everything himself” he’s an idiot. And I don’t think he’s an idiot. He also went through multiple games with less than 10 pass attempts, clearly also not a “do everything himself” situation.

He’s not a good QB. It has nothing to do with politics, or religion, it has to do with the fact that he doesn’t have the skills. Most players don’t. Nobody fears Tebow, he doesn’t live in anybody’s head, and the only great awakening that could happen around him is that the people who seem to worship him might finally realize that he is quite simply not an NFL caliber QB.

steer way clear of Heisman winners.

QBs, anyway - lotta terrific RBs on that list.

He hasn't been up till now - I'm hoping that' changed.

You don’t win Heisman trophies by having nothing in your brain to process play action info!

That means absolutely nothing. The NFL is littered with Heisman trophy winners who were complete and total busts in the pros. Tebow is just one of them.

Used to be. That seems to be going away too. Of course a lot of what makes somebody a Heisman bust is that teams trade away extra picks to get them. When you use up 3, 4, 5 picks to get a guy you’re giving up talent elsewhere, and nobody on an NFL team can succeed without help. Best QB that ever walked the earth with no blocking and crappy receivers will be out of the league in 3 years. Great RB with no blocking and no passing threat isn’t going to accomplish much either.

Yeah, unless you've built a near-great team that genuinely just needs that one missing piece, trading up seems like a bad idea.

It would be nice. He’s a nice guy, and fun to watch. But I think he did himself a disservice by going NFL or bust. 2 years with a coach can be good, but life on the practice field throwing through hula-hoops is vastly different than life on the game field with an opposing defense trying to kill you. He should have gone to the Arena League, do the coach stuff during their off season but during their season get game time reps, really develop the skills during duress not just on the practice field. Worked wonders for Kurt Warner.

Well QB coach House has worked with everything that goes into his throw. We’ll see what happens.

Yeah fixed him up real good on the practice field. But that’s a different world. Tebow wouldn’t be the first guy we see get much improved on the practice field to revert to form on the playing field. Probably not the last either. I think he’d have a much better shot if he’s spent time playing in another league, anything, AFL, CFL, semi-pro. Nothing can replace game time reps, and he has gotten exactly none of those.

That was Teebow’s real issue...he thought he had to do everything himself and it can put folks off.

The Broncos 2012 season could very well be a case of the team carrying the quarterback rather than the other way around. In most of his wins Tebow didn't put a lot of points on the board - 18 or less in five of his wins and the margin of victory in four of them was less than a touchdown. That means his defense was carrying him rather than the other way around.

Having read up on Tebow House says it's hard wired into him. A lot harder to get back into old habits under game stress. 2nd nature. Concentration; accurate reads and execute the plays.

Nothing can replace game time reps, and he has gotten exactly none of those.

It's not like Tebow has no NFL starting experience which he does, and he should get some in this upcoming preseason. If he executes well in preseason he makes the team.

As I understand Tebow does not typically look good in practice. If a QB can’t throw, looks indecisive in practice, he’s not going to get much of a chance to play.

Hard wired on the practice field. Again this has been seen before. And the number of QBs that have actually managed to retrain their brain and body after getting into the NFL AND make that new training stick in game is a very small number. The new stuff might be second nature for him, but the bad way of doing things was FIRST nature for, that’s how he’s been playing the game is whole life. And when there’s a defense in your face you tend to go to First nature.

Tebow hasn’t taken a meaningful NFL snap in 2 years. And the year before that he threw 8 passes. Basically he’s spent the last 3 years on the practice field. I doubt he gets time in the preseason. He’s 4th on the depth chart right now and everybody thinks his team is going to make a run at a 5th QB in the draft. That’s not a formula for being on the field during games, even preseason.

Tebow has likely immensely improved in that area since he’s been working out for a long time with the same QB coach that coaches Tom Brady.
