Sperm bank sued after donor details emerge 7 years later

He was good on paper: Eloquent, mature, healthy and smart to boot.

That's why Angela Collins and Margaret Elizabeth Hanson say they chose Donor 9623 to be the biological father of their child.

Then last June, almost seven years after Collins gave birth to a son conceived with his sperm, they got a batch of emails from the sperm bank that unexpectedly — and perhaps mistakenly — included the donor's name. That set them on a sleuthing mission that quickly revealed he is schizophrenic, dropped out of college and had been arrested for burglary, they said in a lawsuit filed March 31 in Atlanta.

They’re gonna lose.
The description given to them about the donor is vague and lots of wiggle room in there.
They bought it. They own it...........

Or single women to make babies because they cannot find a man or keep one.

I always felt that anyone who participates in this form of breeding is not so normal to begin with. The men & women it attracts have a screw loose. I can’t imagine normal, adjusted children emerging from this.

If these lesbians did it correctly, they wouldn’t have to worry. Instead they did it the ‘turkey baster’ way. I’m surprised that they didn’t sue the sperm bank for giving them a boy instead of a girl.

I read that soon if science is correct men can have babies and tag people too. In Sweden, they put an artificial womb in a TG. Earth is going to hell in a hand basket!!!

Artificial womb? Highly unethical on the part of the surgeon, let alone the TG “customer”.

And he likes piña coladas.............

Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

Songwriters
HOLMES, RUPERT

Published by
Lyrics © Warner/Chappell Music, Inc.

I was tired of my lady, we’d been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording, of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column, there was this letter I read:

“If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you’re not into yoga, if you have half a brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I’m the love that you’ve looked for, write to me, and escape.”

I didn’t think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady, had fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad.
And though I’m nobody’s poet, I thought it wasn’t half bad.

“Yes, I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
I’m not much into health food, I am into champagne.
I’ve got to meet you by tomorrow noon, and cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O’Malley’s, where we’ll plan our escape.”

So I waited with high hopes, then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady, and she said, “Oh, it’s you.”
And we laughed for a moment, and I said, “I never knew”..

“That you liked Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You’re the love that I’ve looked for, come with me, and escape.”

“If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you’re not into yoga, if you have half a brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I’m the love that you’ve looked for, come with me, and escape.”

I can imagine in ten years Monsanto will have a monopoly on human reproduction.
Likely by a genetic modification that adds several years.
Or one that adapts people to socialism.

In theory, I can agree with you. In reality, I know there are childless couples who tried everything, including adoption, before turning to sperm banks. So I reserve judgement.

Our marriage is great, in large part, because of the blessing of children. I can only imagine how much less it would be without them.

I find it deeply understandable that people can long for kids with a powerful deep yearning that seems almost undeniable. My husband and I have had our share of reproductive woes, including two miscarriages and a failed would-be adoption (the birthmother chose against the adoption plan almost at the brink of birth.)

Terrible pain and heartbreak.

But every method of getting a baby is not OK. Having a baby by another man, other than your husband, is reproductive infidelity. It violates the unique and exclusive nature of the marital bond, even if the lawful husband thinks that's OK. It also intentionally, in a pre-planned way, "normalizes" the violation of the natural father-child bond--- something which has been preempted, sold off, bought off, split off, fragmented, minimized and shredded almost to nothing in our society as it is.

To put it in relation to God: we are not the masters of the sources of life, but ministers of the Divine design.

Any drug, device, therapy or surgery which restores marital intercourse to regain its natural fertility, is great, and it recognizes the sacred unity of the couple. But I would argue that paying some guy to masturbate into a jar so you can get pregnant, does not.

I am not saying your view is wrong, but it is extreme. Of all the various Christian denominations out there, I believe Catholics and Mormons have the most strict views on issues of sexual morality and I don't believe either one has issued a statement forbidding the use of sperm banks.

In the first several months of our marriage, my wife and I had difficulty getting pregnant even though we were trying regularly and often, seldom ever missing a day and as many as 3 or 4 times some days.

But no luck, so we checked into possible medical causes. It turned out that all we needed was a change in positioning and shazam! Three beautiful daughters in less than 4.5 years.

Those few short months taught us to be more sympathetic to couples who weren't so fortunate.

"A change in position"! Wow! This information needs to be spread around!

Very often there are techniques to restore true fertility (the ability to get pregnant via marital intercourse) involving things as seemingly simple as a different diet, wearing boxer shorts rather than jockey shorts (yes, gentlemen, this has a big impact on sperm count), correcting abnormal hormonal levels, or better timing (using NFP to pinpoint the best days for conception.)

Some of this can be founding under the heading of NAPRO-TECHNOLOGY

I wish these things were MUCH better known, because OB/GYN's often go straight to expensive, often unsuccessful artificial reproductive technologies rather than seriously diagnosing and correcting the reason for the infertility.

The Catholic Church prohibits artificial insemination as morally objectionable.

If you are a practicing Catholic (there are too few of them, IMHO) or share the same belief, I respect them but respectfully disagree in this case simply because I feel the blessings of children in a marriage outweigh the very valid concerns in the papal statement as long as the couple makes the decision by carefully weighing the pros and cons.

Lots of things, as you pointed out, have an influence on the ability of couples to get pregnant.

In our case, it was purely mechanical. Without getting too graphic or specific, let's just say that the hallway to the palace was longer, more curved and narrower than normal, especially just before the palace entrance.

The tadpole nozzle, OTOH, had plenty of length but was thicker than normal, not fitting far enough down the hallway and, as a result, all the tadpoles were getting out and swimming themselves to death before they got to the palace.

A combination of a pillow to elevate her backside and thereby change the angle of the tadpole nozzle's entrance, a little more patience in putting the nozzle in more slowly and further down and the help of gravity in making sure the tadpoles didn't have to swim so far worked wonders.

The OBGYN explained it was a fairly common problem and fairly easily cured before we even ran any expensive tests. He also explained that, over time, the hallway and nozzle adapted to the unique shapes and sizes of each and made for a better fit-- another argument in favor of marital fidelity!

We were PG within 6 weeks of the visit! The same OBGYN delivered our first two daughters and told us some research indicated that the better swimming tadpoles carried the daughter code. There must be something to it since #3 was also a daughter.

We laugh about it now because it seems so obvious, but it didn't at the time.
