Why men refuse to marry: Women complain chaps today won't settle down.
The Daily Mail ^ | April 20, 2015 | Peter Lloyd

A controversial new book argues that the triumph of feminism has meant men are now second-class citizens.

George Clooney, Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne may have all taken the plunge recently — but they are a diminishing band of brothers, for the number of men marrying in the West has plunged in recent decades.

The state of matrimony is not just ailing. It is dying out faster than a mobile phone battery.

According to the Office for National Statistics, marriage in Britain is at its lowest level since 1895. In 2011, there were just 286,634 ceremonies — a 41 per cent free fall from 1972, when 480,285 couples tied the knot.

For an army of women, Mr Right is simply not there, no matter how hard they look for him. And the reason? When it comes to marriage, men are on strike.

Why? Because the rewards are far less than they used to be, while the cost and dangers it presents are far greater.

‘Ultimately, men know there’s a good chance they’ll lose their friends, their respect, their space, their sex life, their money and — if it all goes wrong — their family,’ says Dr Helen Smith, a lecturer at the University of Tennessee and author of Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood And The American Dream.

“Could it be that they had been divorced at least once before?”

Some were, but in most cases I know why.

True story: Met this man who asked me out. I said, sure —pick me up at my place. I was all dolled up, ready to go. He showed up, plunked down on my living room sofa, turned on the TV and said, “I don’t feel like going out. How about making me a sandwich or something?” I turned off the TV and threw his sorry butt out into the street.

20years ago I was in a discussion and said that one could trace the rise in divorce rates directly to the women’s movement...and got excoriated for it...

Marriage is a penalty for being stupid enough to fall for it.

Excoriated? Try getting to the truth of what’s going on here. You’ll see excoriation

You can trace the divorce rate directly to the birth control pill

Logically researched and extensively argued by pope Paul vi and his colleagues, published in 1968

Rejected by most in the western world including the clergy

Ignored by all, including all who wrote and read this article

The effect on marriage and family was predicted

All of these idiots, men and women equally but differently, as is their undeniable nature, are to blame. They’ll find themselves at 84 years old dying, not with a family of six adult children and all of their families, a home and a community to care for them and eventually bury them with dignity but alone and isolated

They think marriage is as everything is to them, all about sex and the perverted version of it

God created sex like He created everything else. Mess with His guidance on what it’s for and this is what happens

So many woman deciding it’s fair to their kids to have children out of wedlock and then finger pointing the fathers for support. I’m surprised the guys aren’t the ones insisting on wearing protection

Many guys are also wary of marrying a lady to then find out that she hates sex, or has no idea what to do.

it’s a mess all around.

Ideas have consequences.

I truly feel sorry for young women today......they have had over 40 years of indoctrination starting with their (feminist) moms and with much help from the media and entertainment industry.
Sex and the City is one small example.

Ideas have repercussions.

Once upon a time our nation was Judeo/Christian......there were moral standards most women wanted to abide by.

I shutter at the casual approach to ‘relationships’ now......the ‘hooking up’ society.
.....and its aftermath.......disease, humility, lack of personal responsibility, fear, lack of confidence, abortion, depression.

I can still hear Helen Reddy singing .....’I am woman, hear me roar.’.....

.....except ........instead.......it’s a whine and whimper now.

Indeed. In America women now only bring misery into marriage.

Sadly, it's all true. Marriage is a massive risk for everybody involved. Thanks to the shifts in the culture, people are forced into third base courtship almost from the first date and long before anybody really knows who they've become involved with.

My first marriage ended in divorce because I didn't actually know the women I was marrying and the real "Mrs. Chainmail I" despised me despite some really supreme efforts to make things work. When everything ended, she was living with a former police officer within four days, our daughter began to be weapon against me for the next 12 years, and she got everything I owned and I got all of the debts.

I dated for a while, but the field was mostly other people who had been divorced ("the second bounce") and usually they harbored deep resentments against all men from their first experiences and they had resentful children in the package.

Despite all of this, as with Churchill's definition of subsequent marriages being a "triumph of hope over experience", there's a new (for the last 16 years ) Mrs. Chainmail and all is going quite well - but this time, I made sure I knew for sure who the person was that I was committing my life, my treasure, and all my future.

“It works the other way too. I’m female and didn’t marry because most of the guys I met were irresponsible losers. It takes two people to make a marriage work and most of the guys I knew wanted the woman to do all the work. I suppose they thought women’s lib meant they didn’t have to do anything anymore. Wrong.”

Women do not date guys who are not irresponsible losers. At least while in their 20’s and 30’s.

Marriage is God’s idea. You don’t have to be a Christian to have a good marriage but you need to base your marriage on Christian principles. Men and women who spend their single years sleeping around don’t deserve a good marriage.

Why would a man marry?

Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
First Corinthians, Catholic chapter seven, Protestant verses one to nine,
as authorized, but not authored, by King James
