Don’t tread on this flag.

That’s the message Air Force veteran and former Playboy model Michelle Manhart says she was trying to convey by picking up a damaged flag that protesters had been stomping on in a demonstration at Valdosta State University in southern Georgia on Friday.

A flag is personal property, like a dog. Stopping punks from trampling the flag that is their personal property is like stopping punks from kicking and beating their personally owned dog.

Even if you are violating the law by interfering with a person and their private property, there are times when you are morally justified doing so. This was one of those times.

Michelle D. Manhart (born October 20, 1976)[1] is a former United States Air Force Military Training Instructor who was based at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and held the rank of Staff Sergeant. In January 2007 she was relieved of duty and placed under investigation for posing nude in Playboy magazine.[2] She was subsequently demoted to Senior Airman, a move which caused her to leave the Air Force.[3][4][5]

Manhart, a California native, joined the Air Force in 1994, and is married with two children. When her husband was assigned to Waterloo, Iowa as an Air Force recruiter, she transferred to the Iowa Air National Guard.[6] After the September 11, 2001 attacks she was recalled to active duty, and spent time deployed to Kuwait in 2002.[citation needed]

She was photographed for Playboy’s February 2007 issue in uniform, partially clothed and completely nude. According to the Lackland AFB spokesman, such actions do not meet the high standards expected of airmen nor the Air Force’s core values.[5]

She was a part-time columnist for Canadian news site Orato.[7]

So many of them hate America. They should thank God everyday they’re in the USA.

We could arrange to drop off a buttload of them in, say, Conakry, w/o their passports or any papers, and then just let them fester there for a while before checking back with them and taking their temperature again.

Be an interesting social experiment.

To walk all over the U.S. flag is illegal. I forgot which U.S. code it violates

Moreover, doing it on a college campus for 3 days is extremely provocative.

Furthermore, I found out the punk @ss breaking the laws were not even college students.

Finally, the college through several organizations are going to have counter protest of displaying the American Flag.

Overall, South Georgia is an extremely conservative area.

The Air Force Veteran/Drill Instructor/Playboy Playmate is really a side issue.... The campus police should have FIRST asked the non-students for their Student IDs. Which they did after the arrest. When they did the little cockroaches could not pull them out and left.

I notice the Valdosta State University Campus Police are now saying she was not “arrested” but “detained”.

This is because the Police no they have no case against the Vet.

To walk all over the U.S. flag is illegal.

Not if the person owns the flag. It's their private property.

On 1990-06-11 the Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Eichman struck down the Flag Protection Act, ruling again that the government's interest in preserving the flag as a symbol does not outweigh the individual's First Amendment right to disparage that symbol through expressive conduct.

You sited me the the year 1989. I sited you the year 2012 in U.S. Law. Everything has changed since 911.

Moreover, Wiki (means edit). Anyone can edit Wikipedia.

My source is the actual Feds. So not only is my link a none editable site unlike yours. It’s in the last 3 yeas vs. yours 26 years old.

Nice try....

she was trying to convey by picking up a damaged flag that protesters had been stomping on in a demonstration at Valdosta State University in southern Georgia on Friday.

But before she could spirit the flag away, police officers intervened to return the Old Glory to the protesters who were trampling it and escort Manhart off the premises

You have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!

There is one thing my dad said to me when I was growing up, that regardless of your skin color you are lucky you were born in the nation and this is coming from a man who grew up in some of the most bigoted places in the U.S., did 20 years in the navy, and holds a Masters degree in Computer Science, makes a 6 figure income as well. I will not lie we had a certain past and yeah back then I could not date any woman I freely chose, had the friends I have now, and Jim Crow and the like, but I will still take that over some other place which does not have its crap straight.

- My two cents

I wonder if they even consider the waist size when buying pants.

It is such a classless culture.

Is a flag property or is it owned by the public at large as a symbol of our nation?

You buy it, it's yours. I buy it, it's mine. Do with yours as you please.

The code regarding the flag has no force of law. It was a means to lay out the proper treatment, display, and, ultimately, the retirement of the flag. It's a list of suggestions, not law.

She can wrap herself in my old 48 star flag anyday! At my age it might give me a thrill.
