Blue Angels' first female pilot takes flight

When military aviation buffs pack into the Marine Corps Beaufort Air Show in South Carolina, they'll be wowed by the Navy's Blue Angels. But a new kind of history will also take flight in the team: a woman in the cockpit. U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Katie Higgins is the first female pilot in the team's 69-year history. Michelle Miller took to the sky to see how Higgins got her wings.

The title of the article is very misleading. You have to watch the entire video at the source, right up until the end, to learn she is not flying one of the jets. What a let down.

Were talking Blue Angels here. If she is a PC pick then she will get herself and perhaps others killed. I can’t imagine that this is a PC pick. I would imagine that she must have the same qualifications and know how as the guys in this particular field. Yes there is PC all day long but Blue Angels? I don’t see it.

I hope the team does great! It is a long and grueling season of shows and practices criss-crossing the country. It is too bad the Navy and MSM have to trash a fine man, commander, and pilot every time they mention the Blue Angels and women.

Our original family plan was for my 2 boys to meet me here in Raleigh and drive down to Beaufort.
However both of them have gotten new jobs in TX and CO respectively, so we decided to do the Ft. Worth show in Sept.
Are the F8F Bearcats flying at this show?
I remember seeing them waaaay back when I was a kid. Fantastic plane.

Because they deploy. Accommodations made for women on deployments exceed their value to the unit.
