What is that object that the cop throws behind him before he shoots, and what is the other object laying on the ground?

I don’t know, i am curious about those objects as well. I have watched the video about 20 times or so, and it seems to start right there, so I cannot get a good look at what is going on.

That being said, the rest of the video seems to show that the officer’s life was not in danger at the time he fired, nor was anyone else’s.
