That was a big bestseller back in the sixties. I read the book by John Howard Griffin. Griffin, a white man, did some sort of thing with his skin to look black and traveled around the south writing down his experiences as a "black" man.

I had a prof. at my college (now dead) who met and talked to Griffin after his experience when he, Griffin, did a book tour. My prof. thought he was weird, maybe a bit tetched.

I liked the book, but the movie was ridiculous.

James Whitmore does NOT look "black" at all. In fact it looks like he's in blackface makeup.

In the book, the author shaved his head and actually "passed" as black.

O/T, but Mindy Kaling is hilarious.

She's obviously Indian, but she has an almost "valley girl" accent.

I don't know if she does it for "character", but the effect is rather humorous.
