That was a big bestseller back in the sixties. I read the book by John Howard Griffin. Griffin, a white man, did some sort of thing with his skin to look black and traveled around the south writing down his experiences as a "black" man.

I had a prof. at my college (now dead) who met and talked to Griffin after his experience when he, Griffin, did a book tour. My prof. thought he was weird, maybe a bit tetched.

I too, recall the book and the movie from the 60s - I’m sure millineals probably think the whole thing was weird
