Takei is crowing about the changes, and now it appears it is a gay rights bill and doesn't do a thing to protect objectors to gay marriage?

I just hope conservatives have a more aggressive response to make up the lost revenue next time. And it would have cost over 1 billion in groups pulling out their travel plans or conventions so I do see where the governor is realistically coming from, unfortunately.

And... not enough time was allowed to see who would fill the gap. Indiana might have soon shaped up into the next family friendly mecca. There was no need for Pence or anybody else to panic.

A repeal would have been better, maybe... if this thing fails due to its poison pillness, the next attack will be to just repeal the old bill.

IN the meantime, the circular firing squad is all drilled and ready.

Noting that the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect gay agenda issues, it remains that constitutionallly enumerated rights, including 1st Amendment-protected religious expression, are still protected from unreasonable abridgement by the states via Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.
14th Amendment, Section 1:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Note that the “privileges or immunities” term which John Bingham, the main author of Section 1, used in that section is just another way to refer to constitutionally enumerated rights, most of these well-known rights, including 1st Amendment-protected freedom of religious expression, listed in the Bill of Rights.

But citizens will have to get familiar with Section 1 in order to defend their religious expression rights in front of judge. And let’s hope that the judge didn’t get indoctrinated at the same law school that Mike Pence did.

I think that when voters start roaring Section 1 of 14A that judges are going to have second thoughts about ignoring Constitution.
