I like the Windows 8 GUI better than on 7. Much better. Only minor thing is to add a start button via the download “Start 8” Talking laptops and desktops of course! :) Windows 8 touch screen devices are not on me radar. They are irrelevant to me.

With that start button so I can bypass the tiles/apps..... I am good to go and I like it!!

Here's the list for the Technical Preview (essentially the same as for Win8.1):

WIN 7 is like WIN95 OSR2 .. But it didn’t handle USB. I still have a nice old Sony desktop getting dusty. OH WELL. MOORES LAW?

IM running WIN 7 Prof on a new laptop. XP was OK. WIN7 muoy better.

I remember the beginning of Microstiff and its realm.. Now Gates sprays us and vaccinates us on PCs and laptops and our bodies too.

There will be a (purportedly free) version of Win 10 for the Raspberry Pi 2, I wonder if something like that would work on a regular PC?

Once you upgrade to Windows 98se, you’ll never go back to 3.1.

As I asked, would the “free” version of Win 10 for Raspberry Pi 2 still work on a normal PC? Wouldn’t it HAVE to run off of a USB?

It will be interesting to see what people do with that.

> If this is something you want to do, keep it to pure tech (related to Microsoft if you want), neutral but critical if it demands it.

It's something I've wanted to do for years, truly. I just kept hoping somebody else would do it first so I wouldn't have to. :) But yeah, exactly what you say -- keep it to the news, the pros and cons of the software and related products.

With regard to opinions, I'm not anybody's fanboy. There are things I like a lot about Windows, and certainly I have no axe to grind, like I said it has made me a lot of money over the years. I'm mostly interested in keeping up with the new releases, things like security issues, advances in the technology. I'm sure that from time to time someone will post a thread about the latest exploits of Bill Gates, and the list will get pinged if it's relevant to the company, but otherwise I would just as soon the list steer mostly clear of politics and social stuff. That ain't what Windows is about. It's just software.

There's plenty to talk about tech-wise, and that's why I've devoted my career to doing this stuff. I love the tech.

> Not the type of fanboy nonsense those guy like to.

Well, I can't control or limit what fellow FReepers post, whether threads or comments, and Windows has its fanboys too. But I do hope it keeps down to a dull roar. :)

May I count you in?

Perish the thought. The ping automatically reboots for you. Even if you're not logged on.
So just like my Galaxy on Verizon?
I await my product key. I hope I won't need to use Powershell scripting to read them.

Well, now, if what you run is OS-X and Linux, the only way you'd get a BSOD is to run Windows in a VM, right?

But okay, you're not on until you want on.
