Full Title: Bodies of 2 dead children were left in Detroit freezer for more than a year, mother in custody: police

Two children who were found dead inside a freezer in a Detroit home Tuesday, had been in the container for more than a year, police said.

Authorities found the bodies of the two children, a 14-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy, in an apartment in the city's east side, Detroit Officer Jennifer Moreno told the Daily News.

Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt told the Detroit News the bodies appear to have been in the freezer "for over a year." She lived in another apartment at the complex with her two other children, police said.

"She's been living there with other children while the bodies were in the freezer," he said. "This is a terrible situation."

The children were inside a plastic bag in the freezer, Moreno said. She declined to comment if the bodies had been dismembered.

A court officer had gone to the home Tuesday morning to conduct an eviction, she said. It was during his search of the property that he found the children, she said.

"Terrible find this afternoon," Police Chief James Craig said, according to ClickOnDetroit.Com. "It was during that eviction process that they discovered two young children in a freezer ... they were inside a bag and appeared to be frozen."

A neighbor told authorities where the mother was located, the chief said. Police did not identify a motive, the website reported.

The children's mother is in custody for questioning but no charges have been filed at this time, Moreno said. Police have identified her as a "person of interest."

The identities of the mother and the children are not being released. The cause of death will be determined by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

Moreno declined to release additional information on the investigation.

Two other children were also in the home and were transported to protective services, according to TV station WXYZ.

Lots of private money going into rebuilding Detroit.

I know, I wish I was in my 20's and had the finances for investment in the properties downtown.......

These guys are hipster types but they are really bringing a lot of smaller investors into Detroit.

Detroit is the best opportunity conservatives have for taking a city back and if we're too ignorant to try, we don't deserve to win.

Then why don't you post photos of the current transformation the downtown and riverfront areas that Detroit is going thru?

I'll post them in 20 years.

1) At this point, the city of Detroit owes money to more than 100,000 creditors.
2) Detroit is facing $20 billion in debt and unfunded liabilities. That breaks down to more than $25,000 per resident.
3) Back in 1960, the city of Detroit actually had the highest per-capita income in the entire nation.
4) In 1950, there were about 296,000 manufacturing jobs in Detroit. Today, there are less than 27,000.
5) Between December 2000 and December 2010, 48 percent of the manufacturing jobs in the state of Michigan were lost.
6) There are lots of houses available for sale in Detroit right now for $500 or less.
7) At this point, there are approximately 78,000 abandoned homes in the city.
8) About one-third of Detroit’s 140 square miles is either vacant or derelict.
9) An astounding 47 percent of the residents of the city of Detroit are functionally illiterate.
10) Less than half of the residents of Detroit over the age of 16 are working at this point.
11) If you can believe it, 60 percent of all children in the city of Detroit are living in poverty.
12) Detroit was once the fourth-largest city in the United States, but over the past 60 years the population of Detroit has fallen by 63 percent.
13) The city of Detroit is now very heavily dependent on the tax revenue it pulls in from the casinos in the city. Right now, Detroit is bringing in about 11 million dollars a month in tax revenue from the casinos.
14) There are 70 “Superfund” hazardous waste sites in Detroit.
15) 40 percent of the street lights do not work.
16) Only about a third of the ambulances are running.
17) Some ambulances in the city of Detroit have been used for so long that they have more than 250,000 miles on them.
18) Two-thirds of the parks in the city of Detroit have been permanently closed down since 2008.
19) The size of the police force in Detroit has been cut by about 40 percent over the past decade.
20) When you call the police in Detroit, it takes them an average of 58 minutes to respond.
21) Due to budget cutbacks, most police stations in Detroit are now closed to the public for 16 hours a day.
22) The violent crime rate in Detroit is five times higher than the national average.
23) The murder rate in Detroit is 11 times higher than it is in New York City.
24) Today, police solve less than 10 percent of the crimes that are committed in Detroit.
25) Crime has gotten so bad in Detroit that even the police are telling people to “enter Detroit at your own risk“.

At around the 9 minute mark they visited Cafe de Mongo.......Larry the owner is a friend of mine who I've known for over 35 years. He was a jig and fixture builder in my plant who went thru our apprentice program way back when and retired when our plant closed in December of 2006.........

I don’t have a preference of Lafayette vs American Coneys but I’m from Jackson so it’s Todoroff’s for me.

Looks like Larry Mongo is doing a pretty good business at the hands of the hipsters who are apparently better “doers” than conservatives are.

It wasn't until a couple years ago that I found out that Larry's family is well connected to Detroit's inner circle of politics........

His brother is Adolph Mongo, a Democrat political activist and strategist who has worked for all the mayors as well as Fieger for the past 30 years.........

Mike Duggan is a Democrat but does actually seem to be pretty pro business. Dave Bing was a good guy but too old to wrangle the snakes.

Rich people are good to have around because they spend money. Roger Penske, Dan Gilbert, and Mike Illitch are running things in Detroit according to the community organizers and I can only hope its true.

My cousin went to high school with Roger.
She said even then everybody knew he was gonna grow up to do big things.

Of course my cousin did OK too, she’s married to a senior capo in the Clinton Crime Family, LOL.

I live about 6 miles from Michigan International Speedway which was also A penske project. Without the speedway, Brooklyn would be a little town of a couple hundred people.

Its still not a big town (5000 people or so) but its a wealthy town.

Yup. Just stay out of the hood and you’re just fine in Detroit.

I just read today that they’re at something like 98% occupancy in the buildings and office space downtown. That’s pretty astounding when you consider the fact that they were under 30% occupancy 5 years ago.
