I'm confused about this Cruz Citizenship thing

Posted on 03/23/2015 1:17:25 PM PDT by bigdaddy45

So I saw several years of complaints that Obama was born in Kenya. Lets assume he was. His mother is an American citizen; there isn't any dispute there. And, in the minds of those who believe he was born in Kenya, that means he's not eligible to be President.

Lets move to Ted Cruz. He was born in Canada. His father wasn't a US Citizen at the time of his birth. His mother was. So if Obama being born in Kenya supposedly matters, why does Cruz being born in Canada NOT matter?

Sorry that you can’t handle a bit of logical discussion without pulling out the “zot” card.

Really. Where are your logical counterarguments to the several dozen logical responses to your one tired initial assertion? I haven't seen any.

Gee, thanks for the warning. You aren’t German by chance are you? You got that “Stasi” look about you.

I am doing JUST what you’re warning me about. If Obama isn’t eligible based on all the stated legalities, I fail to see how Cruz is.

And for the record, I think Obama is a citizen and eligible to be President. A sorry ass one to be sure, but eligible.

no counterarguments necessary

Cruz... foreign born, Obama... foreign born (for discussions sake, although evidence and logic suggest otherwise)

Cruz... mother citizen, Obama... mother citizen
Cruz... father foreign citizen, Obama...father foreign citizen

the only potential difference is the age of Obama’s mother. Do you know the age of Cruz’s mother when he was born? And how many years past 14 she lived in the US? I haven’t seen it anywhere. I assume you’re diligently researching it.

Also, if she provides that she still has to show that she passes the residency tests that Obama's mother failed. 10 years continous residency in the USA, 5 after the age of 14.

It appears that it would be highly unlikely the Cruz's mom did not meet those requirements.

From Wiki:

Cruz's mother was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware,[23] in a family of three quarters Irish and one quarter Italian descent.[21][26][34] She was the first person in her family to attend college. She earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Rice University in Houston in the 1950s, working summers at Foley's (department store) and Shell Oil

Is his citizenship based on positive (man made) law (such as USC 8 or the 14th Amendment) or on natural law?
If positive law then, IMO, he is a citizen, but not a natural born citizen.
A natural born citizen doesn't need positive law.

Think of it this way...are your rights to free speech and to keep and bear arms a natural right or a positive right?

I assume you’re diligently researching it.

Why should I? I believe Obama was born in Hawaii. I think the problem started when he tried to pass himself off as foreign born to gain some sort of advantage in college admissions.

And I think its clear Cruz is an American citizen.

I also think this is a ridiculous, provocative thread started by someone who would rather have someone other than Cruz as the candidate.

Just admit it.

Jim;

With due respect to your forum; I believe that Cruz is a great American legislator. A fine conservative voice in time so liberal silliness. I would vote for him if I was in his state- for senator, for representative etc, but as far as for president, only after a federal court ruled that persons born of non-US parents indeed are Natural born citizens. I care not about native or naturalized issues- they are moot in this equation.

Now, If it comes down to it and Cruz is the GOP nominee for POTUS, then I will vote my conscience after deep thought and consideration.

This item won’t be devise to us in my opinion, but the discussion ought to be encouraged and brought to full light rather than simply pushed as a non-question.

If John McCain had to get the senate to make a statement, then by golly anoyne born out of the country espc on other than official government duty ought to be scrutinized a bit as well..

God Bless America.

The Obama citizenship ruckus was always a silly ploy by people who think they, not the courts, are the ultimate interpreters of the law.

Absolutely right. If the court says homosexuals have a right to marry, and that the 14th amendment grants women a right to abortion, we should all refrain from questioning their wisdom, click our heels together like good little Nazis, and just OBEY the directives of our Superiors.

Thinking for yourself can only cause trouble.

Gee, amazing how we’re in violent agreement.

And what do you want me to admit? I think Cruz is a brilliant guy. I’d love to see him as President, and see him as in the mold of Reagan? Do I think he can win? Not yet, but I think watching him campaign will be fun.

The simple fact that you're citing positive law ought to be your biggest clue to address the issue.

A natural born citizen doesn't need a positive law to be a citizen, much less a natural born citizen.

Why don't you research it? It's you who are questioning Cruz's citizenship. In the event that you have forgotten, the title of this thread is:

Problem is - he was born in Hawaii.

Allegedly. Hawaii is probably the only state in the Union that will give you a birth certificate even if you weren't born there.

Hawaii also will not furnish any proof that he was actually born there. All they will say is that "it's in our records." We ask to see the records, they say "No. You can't see our records."

Till I see some better evidence, it remains an open question as to where he was born.

...as his mother fully met the requirements to pass citizenship at birth.

My mother didn't have any requirements. Why should the mother have to pass "requirements"? Were these "requirements" around in 1787?

Cruz is an American, and Obama isn’t, regardless of where they were born.

And this I believe.

3:17:25 PM...you posted the thread.

4:44:23 PM...No. Cruz is a NBC. Obama (sadly) is a NBC also based on the preponderance of evidence.

So why did you start the thread when your mind was already made up?

So look it up. I have. He was born to an American citizen working and temporarily living in Canada and is an American citizen from birth.

I have not seen it, have you? No Wikipedia on her yet.

Yeah well, those women born in Delaware in the 1930's who have no Wikipedia entries were a shifty lot.

LOL
